Title: iSeriesLive Launches: Live Poker/Holecards shown/live betting
Post by: TightEnd on March 19, 2012, 08:23:55 PM
The interesting part of this press release, I thought, was the players getting a %age of revenues. Not something that you've seen too often to date

Edited version of the press release

iSeriesLIVE introduces in-action betting, streamed over the internet, with poker's biggest names

19 March 2012 (London, England) – Poker Royalty, LLC today launches iSeriesLIVE, a ground breaking new interactive poker series that allows consumers to watch top poker players – live with hole cards exposed – and bet on the action as it happens.

IseriesLIVE is the next step in poker's evolution. The series enhances the way the public watches and engages with poker events online – providing viewers wit the opportunity to feel the same rush and excitement as the pros.

The first event takes place in Dublin, Ireland, on April 5th at 18:00 (WET). This launch event is a promotional € 10,000 buy-in, winner takes all, ten person shoot-out featuring some of the biggest names in poker including Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Carlos Mortensen and Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott. Future events will include 36 person, six max no-limit hold-em, heads up tournaments and more.

Players will be sequestered in all iSeriesLIVE events with no access to mobile devices or outside influences. Online viewers will be able to bet on a number of real-time scenarios including odds to win the table that change on evolving chip stacks, next player eliminated, “last longers” and the flop (red or black).

For this promotional event, live betting will be offered exclusively via sports-book giant Paddy Power.

“For poker to continue to grow, the game needs to become more immediate to our fans” said 11-time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth. “By allowing fans to view a poker event as it actually happens, with hole cards exposed, and bet on the action just as they wood on football or horse racing, iSeriesLIVE can help take our game to the next level”

Another unique element about iSeriesLIVE is the events financial structure. Thanks to the pioneering efforts of Poker Royalty, each player will actually receive a revenue split of all money that is bet on or against them during the live events – making this the first time in poker history that all participating players have the opportunity to make money while playing in a poker tournament.

“We're all about finding new ways to help players make money” says Brian Balsbaugh, founder of Poker Royalty. “With iSeriesLIVE participating players have the opportunity to share in the profits of the event while fans of the game get to live vicariously through their favourite pros as they bet on the action. It's an exciting step in the overall growth of the game”.

Live betting is only offered in PaddyPower licensed and regulated markets.

Can't wait for this. Always thought bookies priced up poker pretty badly. Hopefully the market are closer to 103% (premiership football) than 150% (in running darts)

flushy is 9/1 vs 10 players?

should we be smashing that?

who invented this? i bet a poker player who will star, profit and promote this. Abs think it sucks unless you going to be betting big on it.

WOW, hopefully they let people get a bet on! Had a crack with my dad, former bookie. Win market roughly priced up to 122% but we both agree Dempsey is value. Some of the match bets look interesting, would definitely look to oppose Ulliott/Hellmuth/Neg vs the internet kids, possibly marginal value 4/5 O'Dea vs Ulliott tho for example, but it depends massively on the style going in. Not sure if WTA is a help or hindrance here, and not sure i fancy punting on Dempsey 4th or better then watching Hellmuth/Ho and Co nitting it up.

I'll definitely be having a decent bet at 9/1 but not sure on anything else. Cannot wait for the HU/6 Max etc, as the young internet kids will definitely be priced poorly.

Yeah, know we are a bit biased around here but I will be having a decent bet on Flushy too at those prices - think 9/1 is huge value, especially in that format

I would be amazed if this was priced up as anything other than an automated algorithm based on chip stacks and liabilities with a chunky margin built in. So I doubt that will be the case unless the internet kid has a short stack.

Apparently you can bet on a straight flush on the flop. I presume this means on the board. Either way the true odds on that would be enormous. I wonder what the odds on offer will be. Probably something absurd like 1,000/1

Viewers can bet on a variety of outcomes including winner, next out, top two, last longers, winner of the next hand, odds that an ace is dealt, red or black flops etc

Some examples

Current Odds

Winner

Negreanu 11/2
Hellmuth 13/2
Ho 10/1
Rettenmaier 8/1
Dempsey 8/1
Jaka 8/1
O'Dea 7/1
Ulliott 8/1
Mortensen 7/1
Reinkemaier 15/2

First out

Negreanu 10/1
Hellmuth 17/2
Ho 6/1
Rettenmaier 7/1
Dempsey 7/1
Jaka 13/2
O'Dea 8/1

Think flush will bust early or go on to win but 8-1 for win makes the 7-1 for top 2 huge IMHO

Daniel Negreanu

iSeriesLIVE interview today with yours truly

What were your thoughts when you heard about the iSeriesLIVE concept?

I was originally an early consultant on the whole project and one of the things I loved was that it brings poker more in line with the sports betting you see on other sports, for example the NFL in the US. Viewers can have a financial interest in the game they are watching and adjust that through the game as variables change.

Will your own single table format TV experience be an advantage?

Well there are no weak spots in this field, and I think I am a “bridge” really between the older type of players, the household names who have been on our screens for a decade and the newer, younger players who perhaps have more of an online background. Does this give me an advantage? Well I don't know but I will be as aware of anyone of the contrasting styles around the table. Everyone can play, that's for sure. Maria Ho is at the bottom of the field at 10-1 and by no means is she the worst player out there

Can you talk about the Revenue share for players?

I like the purity and transparency of it. At the end of the first event there will be a bottom line figure  and the players will get a split of that. Compare that, for the player, to where companies sponsor established poker tournaments and the players see no share of that revenue. It's exciting, and if it works we might see these revenue shares free-rolling players into future events, and in the future a lot more players are going to have the opportunity to be involved in the Series, I hope

The payout format today is Winner takes all. What does this mean to your play?

That's exciting too and will definitely be a strategy adjustment for everyone. No one will be laddering for the extra spot up the cash positions, as you sometimes see in the more regular payout structures, it's winner takes all. First out is the same as finishing second in my eyes, so it will be aggressive that's for sure. In fact (laughs) I could well be a decent bet to be first out!

What trends would you be looking out for as a viewer for betting in action?

Well the type of bets on offer are really no different from what we've been doing in our games for years. Side action on flop colours for example, and you'll have seen us chatting about action in some of the televised formats. Now the viewer can participate too, interactively and I think that will be a lot of fun for everyone.

In terms of what to watch for once the action starts, the one thing I would look for is if a favourite of yours loses chips early. We start with 100 big blinds and say your player goes down to 60 big blinds early. The odds-setters adjust the price but there's plenty of time for your player to recover. That may be the time to back your player. Again, will be fun for people to see if they disagree with the odds-setters as play develops.

The Hellmuth last longer, he is the favourite I see. Happy with that?

Oh he should be favourite! If I were betting this I would be on Phil. I could easily be first out as I will be aggressive and pushing whereas Phil is more careful and conservative. He is definitely the favourite, I am more of a boom-bust pick in this.

Aside from yourself who would you point us to as worth looking at?

Easy, Tobias Renkemeier. (laughs) I wouldn't be backing me at the price, that's for sure!

Looking ahead, are you playing Irish Open, what are your plans pre WSOP?

Yes I am playing the Irish Open starting tomorrow, I have never played it before so that will be great. Then I have a busy two months, tournaments in Los Angeles, Monte Carlo, a few things to do in Canada, playing all of the SCOOP events, WPT and then into the World Series.

Good luck today!

Thanks

didnt realise he had the super tight gear though so is impressing mr.hellmuth

also from the poker-brat

you have to raise more than 5x so people dont call with sets and call and get lucky on you, especially if you have a post flop advantage..

second favourite is 4/1

Obviously didn't watch this because watching poker sucks.

Great to see that Flushy won though. Well played mate.

James Dempsey is the first-ever iSeriesLIVE Champion after defeating nine others in the event, part of this year’s Irish Open festival which featured ten top pros in the €10,000 buy-in winner take all Sit-N-Go.

The audience was able to take part by betting on everything from individual hands to the overall winner in real time as they watched the action on a livestream complete with hole cards. Dempsey overtook early chip leader Faraz Jaka with Aces against Kings, all in pre-flop, to take a chip lead that he was never to relinquish.

Devilfish, some four hours into play, looked like being first out when all in with 6-6 against Hellmuth's Q-Q. but he hit a set on the flop to double up. Hellmuth was now short-stacked and was the first out when his A-Q lost a race against Daniel Negreanu’s pocket nines. That gave Negreanu a win in the much publicised last longer with Hellmuth. Negreanu wouldn’t last much longer though. He flopped an open-ended straight flush draw with 5-4 on K-6-3 to Dempsey’s K-J and pushed all-in. Dempsey took his time with a long dwell, called, held, and knocked Negreanu out in eighth to amass a huge chip lead.

Short stacks Tobias Reinkemeier and Jaka hit the rail. Dempsey took out Carlos Mortensen in fourth place, leaving Dempsey, Ulliott, and Maria Ho three handed. Dempsey had both his opponents  outchipped, but Ulliott knocked out Ho in third.

The blinds were now such that a short heads-up battle was inevitable. Dempsey won seven of the eight hands of heads-up play, and his AK beat Ulliott’s A8 on the final hand of action.

Dempsey adds an iSeriesLIVE title to his WSOP bracelet and WPT Bellagio win. Ulliott earned nothing for his runner-up finish. Victory would have been his first six-figure score since his win in the Paris in 2009.

+1.  I got you at 8-1, what do you think your actual odds of winning were (pre-event)? 13-2?
