My blogspot/facebook and e-mails have all been hacked this morning.

In particular had an e-mail sent to my accountant asking me speficic banking information, luckily he rang me up to ask wtf I was talking about.

Please Please Please if anyone has any out of the ordinary contact with me just msg me on here or get my number from someone and we'll confirm from text.

loads of people have my number on here so should be easy enough to find if you need it...

Sigh for these guy if they try hacking my accounts to find out i have no money! anywhere :D

That's shit Dave, I was hacked in Dec & last week (diff emails). 2k worth of transactions went out my bank. Most ridiculous was some kind hacker buying me 2 million stars play money chips at a cost to me of $225.

I'd change ALL passwords asap for starters. If someone gets into your emails and just searches the word "password" in there, they can build a pretty big picture about anyone. I deleted practically all history and any references to user names too. Gl x

I didn't even get them. Just got an email/invoice saying I had bought them and there was a link to apparently getting them virtually.  Wasn't really gonna go ahead and click links from emails at that stage.  Checked my bank and the money had been taken through my google wallet account.  Opened a fraud case with google wallet and barclays and got it refunded.

I reckon it's that taxi driver you didn't pay Dave.

Possibly worth trying to remember if anyone had access to your phone, as these days most of that information is retained in there.

Also I'd get someone to check out your computer / laptop for any installed keyloggers / trojans.

changed all my passwords and did a system re-set on my laptop. Seems to have resolved the problems I think.

Happened to me recently too, money taken in Saudi Arabia, not somewhere I've been so all refunded.

Whilst in long conversations with the bank, one of the security people told me they could use a cloned card in a cash machine there without the pin! This was later denied by another of the banks security people, anyone know if this is even possible?

Back to passwords, I've been told recently not to use any English words in passwords, and as I'm about to start changing all my passwords again (it was just my hotmail that was hacked), can any password experts here suggest ways to make them as secure as possible?

Any password can be beaten. Just depends on how much someone wants to beat it.

If your password is a simple dictionary word, then it's susceptible to a 'brute force dictionary attack'. Basically, someone can run a program that goes through all the words in the dictionary pretty quickly (in different languages). So it's best to have a password that's a mixture of letters, numbers and other characters if possible. Also, the longer the better as that will make a brute force attack take significantly longer.

But all that's irrelevant if you use the same password for different sites, and it then only takes one to be known and it exposes all your accounts.

If someone uses a key-logger (a program that records your key strokes) then it doesn't matter how long or complex it is. Key-loggers can be installed by viruses/trojans and you might not even know.

Basically, an account that is protected by just a single password which is entered in its entirety to log in isn't that secure. Another layer of security is needed to make your account a lot harder to hack. Which is why tokens or additional codes make an account security hundreds and thousands of times stronger. These require knowledge of your password and also physical access to the token (for online banking this will be your card and card reader).

Not sure if hotmail gives you the option of a token-based second level of security or not. If not, it might be advisable to get a different email account that does.
