Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: tikay on June 16, 2005, 02:40:39 PM Let me guess what Nationality they re...... Sandy still playing? Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Ironside on June 16, 2005, 02:42:13 PM he is still playing golf not sure if he still has an exemption to play the US Open he wont have a ranking high enough to play otherwise
Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Karabiner on June 16, 2005, 02:43:19 PM Don't think either of them are high enough in the rankings or have exemptions.
Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Karabiner on June 16, 2005, 02:45:04 PM Monty is in.
Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: ifm on June 16, 2005, 02:45:23 PM Don't former winners get an exeption for life?
Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: TightEnd on June 16, 2005, 02:47:30 PM You are going against a lot of recent history backing a European
Outside the top players I think there is value in the likes of Robert Allenby (125/1 in places), Mike Weir (80/1 generally) and Angel Cabrera (100/1 generally). All consistent straight hitters Of the big boys I think Retief Goosen will be there or thereabouts, as usual Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: TightEnd on June 16, 2005, 02:48:23 PM Don't former winners get an exeption for life? Lyle won the Masters, for which he is exempt for life. I think US open winners get a long term but not lifetime exemption Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Ironside on June 16, 2005, 02:49:40 PM monty squeaked in by getting 50th spot in the rankings JUST
Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: ifm on June 16, 2005, 02:49:53 PM Ok, us open winners get a 10 year exemption.
Lyle is NOT exempt for this years open. Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Karabiner on June 16, 2005, 02:51:15 PM Former winners do get a lifetime exeption I believe.
Sandy Lyle won the US Masters and the Open, not the US Open. And my picks are more down to the style of player, straight accurate hitters with great all round short-games. Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: ifm on June 16, 2005, 02:52:37 PM Tiger Woods has 8 exemptions lol!!!
Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: TightEnd on June 16, 2005, 02:57:48 PM And my picks are more down to the style of player, straight accurate hitters with great all round short-games. I agree, hence my choices....if it's a European winner great, but think better value generally in ROW players.... Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Junior Senior on June 16, 2005, 03:26:11 PM ok, as the resident golfer on this site i suggest you look for an each way outsider in this event as the US Open is notorious for throwing up unusual and unheard of champions. Also alot of sites give you 1/4 odds on top five and when i used to do a bit of golf betting some gave you top 6 but that may have changed. I will pick through the lists and give a blonde tip. - this could be a good feature - blondetips.
The Kinane one from Kev looks like it may come up back later! Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Karabiner on June 16, 2005, 03:34:15 PM get a move on we're half-way through the first round already !
It's been live on sky since 3pm. I'll take Jimenez versus your outside(over 80/1) for a fiver. Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Ironside on June 16, 2005, 03:37:24 PM can i ask what makes junior the residant golfer on the blonde boards
apart from not having played in 15 years i think i might just have played more rounds than anyone here and think i could on my day give anyone on these board a run for there money Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Karabiner on June 16, 2005, 03:39:38 PM He does play off +2 last I heard Ironside.
However I don' think that makes him the best judge of golf betting. ;) Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: ifm on June 16, 2005, 04:04:05 PM +2????
OMG why ain't you on tour? Woods is off +2 and most tour players are off 1 or 2!! Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Karabiner on June 16, 2005, 04:09:16 PM Well I did suggest that the blondeites send you a strippagramme !
Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Ironside on June 16, 2005, 04:11:45 PM and i said natural
hard to find a strippergramme with natural 34c's Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Karabiner on June 16, 2005, 04:13:41 PM No need for a poll there then ?
Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: ifm on June 16, 2005, 04:14:39 PM Actually Tigers handicap is +8, just checked.
Again most tour pro's play off 1 or 2, how come you ain't on tour Greg with a +2 cap? Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Junior Senior on June 16, 2005, 04:18:28 PM actually ifm, tour pros don't have handicaps, they all play off 0.
Most tour pros when they turn pro have a handicap of about +3 or +4, any that turn pro sooner usually don't make it. To be a top golf pro you gotta be a different gravy. Although i can play a bit and compared to most club golfers i am classed as good, there is no comparison between me and tiger or even a top 200 pro. I gave up that dream about 8 years ago. I could still be a club pro and coach but its finding the motivation or will to do that. Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Ironside on June 16, 2005, 04:21:31 PM Actually Tigers handicap is +8, just checked. Again most tour pro's play off 1 or 2, how come you ain't on tour Greg with a +2 cap? most club golfers with a +2 hanicap would need a 3 or 4 handicap to play of the pro tees on the pro greens etc etc Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: ifm on June 16, 2005, 04:24:25 PM I know they play them all off 0, even playing field and all that.
Though if you calculate the pro's using tour results the average is 1 or 2 and woods actually was +9 during 2000. (people actually do track this stuff, not me though) How can you not be a club pro? i'd give my left leg to have that sort of talent, personally i fluctuate like thewey's chips. Best ever was off 9 and i'm classed in the Tiger Woods bracket in my local!! Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Junior Senior on June 16, 2005, 05:33:28 PM just one of those things ifm. When you were at such a level at a young age and never quite made it then it pisses you off. Club pro sounds glamorous but think of those November weekday mornings when no-one wants to buy a mars bar and nobody wants a lesson - i suppose there is always internet poker to solve that - we'll see.
Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Newportlad on June 16, 2005, 05:42:21 PM Forgot to put a bet on this last night.
Was going for Goosen each way at 20/1. Just looked at the odds now on Bluesq and Ladbrokes and he's been cut to 8/1 No real value in that now. Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Karabiner on June 16, 2005, 05:43:56 PM Westwood is back in form (finally) a fearsome player at his best Good call there ifm matched @ 120 on betfair, hope you're on ! Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Newportlad on June 19, 2005, 12:18:48 PM I did eventually get Goosen at 8/1 each way....
Looking good Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Junior Senior on June 19, 2005, 10:56:39 PM the goose is just chucking it away!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: TightEnd on June 20, 2005, 10:30:38 AM Mr Karabiner. Having chosen Jimenez, who lost to Allenby, double or quits on the Ladies singles at Wimbledon?, the Men's not being open enough
you pick one, I pick one, whoever lasts longer wins..... I too was on Mr Goosen, at 12-1, unlike him to throw it away :-\ Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: Karabiner on June 20, 2005, 10:38:21 AM Surely a player has to make the cut to win ?
Scores of players who miss the cut are purely academic. (Reflected in the amount of prizemoney that they win ;) ) However I will not labour the point and will give you my tennis selection shortly. ;D Title: Re: Anyone betting on the US Open golf ? Post by: TightEnd on June 20, 2005, 10:47:31 AM Oh ok, wriggle if you must!!!!
