Title: New second hand phone.
Post by: RED-DOG on May 18, 2012, 11:53:14 AM
I'm thinking of updating my phone. the one I have now is a Motorola Milestone. On the plus side it has a great camera, but on the minus side it's very slow and the battery life is crap.

I'm due an upgrade, so could get a good deal. but I have a good 'Sim only' contract which I'm happy with.

Also, I don't really want the very latest smart-phone, I want the best of the tried and tested ones from the last year or so.

With that in mind, which second hand phone would you recommend I buy? Bear in mind my most important criteria is sturdy build, reliability, good camera and good battery life.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Not a lot wrong with the Samsung Galaxy S2 from what I can see.

How much you planning on spending Tom?

A second hand phone's probably going to cost a lot more than getting a new one on a contract.

I pay £17pm on contract. If I have a new phone I will have to pay £35pm for two years (And probably fof a worse call-data package).

Also, what does everyone do with their old smarty when they upgrade? Do they have a trade-in value? If so, what, roughly, is it?

Has anyone just parted with a Samsung Galaxy or a HTC desire for instance?

I'm on a learning curve here....

I have a Desire lying around.  The charging point on it is a bit dodgy (need to pull the cable a little to the right to get a connection), but otherwise it's OK. Got some spare batteries too, and a charger for them.  Not sure if it'll be that much quicker than your current phone though.  I was happy with my Desire until towards the end of my contract and it was fine, but feeling a little dated.  Now I've got my One X, the Desire seems very slow in comparison.

This is my point Dan. there must be loads of folks with old phones lying around.

I've just been speaking to Voda. I can have a new high speed dongle with 500mb of data on a 30 day contract for a fiver a month inclusive.

At the moment I have one with 3gb per month for £15 but I only use a fraction of that.

Sony w995, 8MP camera built like a tank compared to these new girly phones. I recently lost my old one and i'd no hesitation buying another. £60 ish on Ebay.

Ta muchly for the suggestion, but I kinda like the touch screen format now.

This is what a reviewer said....

For

    Walkman music player
    8.1 megapixel camera
    Decent quality headphones
    Supplied loudspeaker
    A-GPS
    Wi-Fi and HSDPA 3G

Against

    Camera disappointing
    Battery life could be better
    Weak video stand

If you want an android then the Galaxy S2, if not then an iPhone.
