It doesn't do anything that adobe flash can't do so you don't need it anyway. Basically a microsoft thing that they somehow manage to secretly install on your behalf during an update or something. I've got it on my PC but I know 100% that I never asked for it and that my PC worked perfectly well without it. Annoying f**kers!! It is pretty essential for some online based software on a PC. Also some webpages are set up to use Silverlight and it will prompt you to download it to be able to view/run things properly.
But like Matt said you will probably know if you need it then just uninstall it and do a virus scan. Forgot about them. Still safe to uninstall though to get rid of the virus. If she ever goes to a site that needs it she'll just get a link to d/l it for free again anyway. Do it Claire!!
