Random site,

If there is a power outage, the freezer fails, or if the freezer door has been left ajar by mistake, the food may still be safe to use if ice crystals remain. If the freezer has failed and a repairman is on the way, or it appears the power will be on soon, don't open the freezer door. If the freezer door was left ajar and the freezer continued to keep the food cold, the food should stay safe.

A freezer full of food will usually keep about 2 days if the door is kept shut; a half-full freezer will last about a day. The freezing compartment in a refrigerator may not keep foods frozen as long. If the freezer is not full, quickly group packages together so they will retain the cold more effectively. Separate meat and poultry items from other foods so if they begin to thaw, their juices won't drip onto other foods.

When the power is off, you may want to put dry ice, block ice, or bags of ice in the freezer or transfer foods to a friend's freezer until power is restored. Use an appliance thermometer to monitor the temperature.

To determine the safety of foods when the power goes on, check their condition and temperature. If food is partly frozen, still has ice crystals, or is as cold as if it were in a refrigerator (40 °F), it is safe to refreeze or use. It's not necessary to cook raw foods before refreezing. Discard foods that have been warmer than 40 °F for more than 2 hours. Discard any foods that have been contaminated by raw meat juices. Dispose of soft or melted ice cream for quality's sake.

If it's thoroughly thawed and you don't know how long for it's not worth the risk.

Have you got a friend with a large dog who you could just give it all away to?

Seriously though mate do you know how long it's been open? Just today or yesterday as well?

If it was yesterday then it's all definitely ruined.

If it's just today then it might be salvageable but personally I wouldn't risk it.

Was serious about the dog btw. Depending on what it is I might have it off you.

Ronnie loves a nice lamb chop and it's perfectly alright to re freeze for him.

Well your best bet really is to do what Manuel'sMum suggested. If it's off it'll stink so that's an easy check.

If you cook it all now you an freeze it again then use it at your leisure. It won't be quite as nice but at least you save throwing £200 of meat away.

A week off work with food poisoning will cost you a lot more than £200.

I personally would chuck the lot its been 28 degrees most of the day. the bacteria will be a deadly levels if its been like it since yesterday

In the end my brother and dad came round and took a load for a BBQ tomorrow I save some for us for tomorrow chucked a shit load in the bin ......that's gonna stink!!

And re froze some for Evilpie's dog Ronnie

Jeeeez what a horrible way to spend two hours!
The stuff I saved and gave my family was still cold so I guess as long as they put in fridge and eat quickish it will be fine.
.....oh and I gonna put a turkey in the oven in a min!!

This thread is making me feel that my food hygiene practises are insufficient.

If it's still cold (fridge temperature) and you've got reason to believe it's only been off overnight, just freeze it again surely.

If it's at 28C for 4 days and attracting flies, it's time for a tasty feed for big dogs.

No No No!

Refrigeration just slows down the growth rate of bacteria. Freezing stops them from growing. But each time you do this you put the meat through a cycle of bacteria growth, and when you defrost ready for cooking you  have many more to start multiplying to dangerous levels.

this is especially dangerous if using meat for Barbeques where you will have raw a cooked meat in close proximity to each other.

No mate. Straight out the freezer. It lasted about 60 seconds once I gave him the nod.

It's fine mate. I sought a lot of advice before putting Ronnie on a raw diet and anything frozen is fine.

He's been on a mix of normal dog food and frozen raw meat for 4 years and he looks ok to me :)
