Title: WAY OF THE NIT - THE TOURNAMENT (SPONSORED BY TROTTERS INDEPENDENT TRADING) Post by: jjandellis on May 24, 2012, 11:59:45 PM Drawing great inspiration from Milligans' thread and noticing the amount of posts it draws, I thought there might be some interest in a Nit type tournament. So may I kindly introduce:
;letsparty;Way of The Nit - The Tournament (sponsored by Trotters Independent Trading) ;letsparty; ;mexicanwave; ;mexicanwave; ;mexicanwave; ;mexicanwave; ;mexicanwave; I will use this first post to set out what I think should perhaps be some basic rules. This is then put to the floor for suggestions and tailoring, with responses required by 2359 hrs, 31 May. After that the rules will be finalised - and we'll look to set the competition off within 24 hours or so. Concept Each individual starts with £1 with the aim of making as much profit as possible, over a set period, through buying and selling. The player with the biggest profit at the end wins. Simples. Suggested Rules 1. Players start with £1. 2. The game period is 3 months. 3. The player(s) with the most profit at the end of the game win. 4. The tournament is free to enter. 5. No betting/books are to be opened to avoid market manipulation. 6. Players must disclose their e-bay name at the start. 7. Players are to show each purchase/sale, by screen shot, as an when made - with a breakdown of profit. 8. Profits are to be logged on Excel by each individual - and also the adjudicator. 9. No blonde on blonde bidding or shill bidding in any shape or form. 10. Profit CAN be made by fleecing people on postage & packaging costs (actual costs/costs charged must be declared) * 11. Prize pool is sum total of all competitors profits. 12. Prize money paid out to 1st, 2nd and 3rd on 50/30/20% basis. I can't think of anymore rules for now - if anyone sees any gaping holes please shout out and we'll look to amend/add them. * Sticky wicket??? Difficult to audit? Not allow members to include profit from post? Post your interest with the usual 'IN' below. You have one week to propose any rule changes, additions, amendments. ;karabiner; ;karabiner;THIS TIME NEXT YEAR BLONDES, WE'LL ALL BE MILLIONAIRES!!!!!!!!!! ;karabiner; ;karabiner; (http://content6.flixster.com/question/63/45/14/6345148_std.jpg) Title: Re: WAY OF THE NIT - THE TOURNAMENT (SPONSORED BY TROTTERS INDEPENDENT TRADING) Post by: outragous76 on May 25, 2012, 12:02:42 AM http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/5167388.stm
inspiration for you all Title: Re: WAY OF THE NIT - THE TOURNAMENT (SPONSORED BY TROTTERS INDEPENDENT TRADING) Post by: ManuelsMum on May 25, 2012, 09:44:08 AM Great idea, I'm in.
I would suggest: Players can buy their stock from anywhere (think Charity shops, clever finds from shops aided by Ubernit sites etc), not just Ebay (looks like the latter is suggested in OP, unsure-would make it hard, but not impossible. Some people do make a living by buying stuff on Ebay and selling it on Ebay). Perhaps people can start a new Ebay account just for this game. The success of an Ebay sale is influenced very heavily by a Seller's standing because of how this standing mediates position in search results. Players with old/well-feedbacked/Top Rated accounts would pwn. But they may lose Top rated if they overcharge on postage, giving those with nothing to lose an advantage there. Title: Re: WAY OF THE NIT - THE TOURNAMENT (SPONSORED BY TROTTERS INDEPENDENT TRADING) Post by: ManuelsMum on May 25, 2012, 10:07:35 AM Question: do you just buy it and sell it as is (a la Delboy) or can you upcycle (a la Apprentices). Could be quite comical.

I think the charity shop thing is a good idea and car boot sales? Title: Re: WAY OF THE NIT - THE TOURNAMENT (SPONSORED BY TROTTERS INDEPENDENT TRADING) Post by: millidonk on May 25, 2012, 01:29:10 PM If you do charity and carboots people could write their own receipts and get upto all sorts of shadey business. Not saying they would, but they could.. Oh look I found this £700 vase for 30p.. I think for it to legit work it would have to be solely online so you can track it properly. Maybe using those freecycle/trading sites.
If the prizepool is the winnings divided up amongst the top 3 50/30/20 it means that if somehow someone spun up a very nice bink they would actually only end up keeping 50% of their winnings? Think it would be better to do a keep your own profits and a £1 a man for japes or something. Anything which gets people involved is good in my eyes. Although your first post in my thread being spam is utter filth. Put me down in the maybe camp for now. Could be quite comical. Please explain 'upcycle'?? Sorry, I don't watch telly... You didn't miss much with the Apprentice :D I think it means to take something that was destined for the bin and modding/painting it to make it something new and maybe contemporary. E.g. you could take an old chair and paint a Union Jack on it and sell it as a hopefully vibrant, but sadly often kitsch new piece. |
