Title: line against maniac
Post by: rbolt2 on May 27, 2012, 12:45:47 PM
Playing the £40 at dusk till dawn.

Blinds 300/600 ante 100 I think 8 handed

my m= 11 both villians have me covered

villian 1 5th to act  he is essentially a maniac ignores position at the table for hand strength and opens often, when he has a very good hand he tends to raise, and he does give respect to all in raises, but other than that he plays passive betting when other people check. He also stated at one point that he didnt think bet size mattered.

Villian 2 on the sb, seems like a reasonable ish player.

Im in the bb with  6h 2h

Villian one limps, Villian two completes and i check in the bb. Pot: 2600

Flop:     3h 4h 4d

Villian one checks, i misread the board thinking I have a str8 with fd and bet out 2k, Villian one calls, villian two folds

Turn  Jd

I check, realisising I dont have the straight , I dont think he would have limped with hands like ak aq jj though it seems plausible that he is floating me I have seen him calls a raiser hands like 34o at the beggining of the game so it is possible he has the nuts. Villian bets 3800 I call.

River:   3d

I check and Villian puts me all in for 12k, I fold.

I think that because I had a str8 I got a bit confused and my whole plan changed after the flop, if we know the villian can turn up with air quite often on the river how would you play this hand? Im thinking that I should have check raised the turn which does fold out all his bluffs, but it also prevents him from bluffing me and I have reasonable equity on the turn.

On the river after I have shown such weakness he is basically betting his entire range, so although I thought there was a massive chance he was bluffing I wasn't sure that I could call due to the chance of his qh etc being good.

This is a pretty villian specific hand, so I hope people have some opinions.

Serious answer...

nothing much to analyse from the hand history other than be sure on your own hand.

Jamming turn is bad vs this villain obvs. And calling off for a chop on the river isn't something I'd do and I love a good hero call.

Only one word for it and thats butchered.

I would lead flop as u did. Not sure about turn. Might bet small to set up river shove but against villian as described probably just check/fold turn

flop lead fine, but
I'd either lead of chk/fold the turn. chk/call is nut low line OTT given how we have 6high OOP and he has plenty bigger flush draws in his range.

Leading flop is def good but bet much smaller.

Not sure about turn, enough in stacks to make a c/jam feasible? Described villian will probably have wider range than most and not be able to resist a bet when checked to. Could get loads of folds but potentially really thin equity when called. C/f probs best tbh.
