Title: Gone and done it... Lost me bankroll Post by: 4dam on January 13, 2006, 06:12:19 PM Hi all sure we have all done it. Gone and lost 6 months work in about 3 hours. I sat down to play my normal game of cash 5/10nl. very first hand i get dealt 66 I do a small raise and get a caller. The caller is normally very aggresive so i know iam behind before the flop or at best against AK. Then the flop comes 6 high with no flush draw I bet he re raises I reraise it all in he calls. Great i got the nuts he shows 1010 then he dont only get trips they give him quads. 1500 down not even had a mouth full of tea not a good start. I done well i never went on tilt reloaded played my normal game for about 20min and get AA in the big blind. when quad 10s man does a big raise I decide iam happy to take whats in the center and reraise he comes over the top we are both allin both holding AA oh well get a split pot NO i think not he hits a flush. down 1500 more not looking good. This went on for about three hours in the end i have lost all me online bankroll. Question now is do iuse my live bankrool to play on the net or keep it seperate and start again at .50/$1 tables again.
i have lost more then some people earn in a year and i would have to work all the overtime i could to get it back in 6months. Thing is been doing very well live top of casino league had some decent wins but nowher near what i have just lost. i planed to use the some of my net roll and all of my live roll to play a few events at the wsop. Now that dream looks like it might not happen. Anyway going to have a few days off to think about my best stratergie to make a come back.. Any advice on how you got over going bust would be great and any ideas on what you think is my best way back to buiding my bankroll back up. regards and protect your bankroll 4dam Title: Re: Gone and done it... Lost me bankroll Post by: M3boy on January 13, 2006, 06:19:40 PM Reload, start small and work your way up again.
Easy to say, but VERY hard to do. I have also lost my entire online bankroll before, and the temptation is to put in say $1000 and sit down with ALL of it. In the end I was forced to playing freerolls for a while, then used that money to win a $27 rebuy, and havent looked back since. My story slightly different from yours, as I only played multi's. Now I do both, and (touch wood) when one runs bad, the other compenasates for it. GL - let us know how u get on (by pm if you wish) Title: Re: Gone and done it... You writing about the cash exploits on your blog? I would love to read about cash games. Title: Re: Gone and done it... I lost £10 in 12 hours on a similar run on nl and plo - luckily the rest of my year was so good I could take the hit. Title: Re: Gone and done it... I would say 50 x max buy in for a PL/NL table is your comfort zone. If you lost $50K in one day then thats a bad run but if you only had $10K 'roll then you need to play within your "limits" and at a smaller level. Title: Re: Gone and done it... Lost me bankroll Post by: Wardonkey on January 13, 2006, 07:30:00 PM I built my current bankroll from less than $5 that I had left in my VC account 2 years ago. It took a while but when I took my first withdrawl it felt great.
Take heed of what Redsimon has said, your bankroll deserves respect, you shouldn't ever have more than 5% of it at risk. Title: Re: Gone and done it... Lost me bankroll Post by: 4dam on January 13, 2006, 07:36:32 PM i had a lost a bit more then 10k buty nowhere near 50k i here what you are saying about comfort levels but i benn taking a nice wage of these limits in the last 3 months after moving up like everyone i lose some but never to the extent i have today the only good thing is i got that level from 500 and have more the taken that out a week for 3 months so not to unhappy just going to miss that money what i have been wasting on cars, gadgets, beer and women.
it just means i have to live to my means again what i think is the thing that hurts the most wish i had saved even more of my bankroll.... Title: Re: Gone and done it... Lost me bankroll Post by: snoopy1239 on January 13, 2006, 07:43:38 PM I really feel your pain with this. At first, it really hurts when you lose the lot, but after a day or two, you realise how small your problems are in comparison with the rest of the world.
If you can lose your whole bankroll in one session without going on tilt, then I'd suggest that the $5/10 table was too high a stake to play. I used to play $2/4 regularly, and with some success, but the swings were just so huge that I thought it would be best to drop down to $1/2 and work my way up slowly, without the emotional turmoil of the higher limits. Best thing to do is have a break from poker, return refreshed and revitalised, and start from the $50/1. Title: Re: Gone and done it... Lost me bankroll Post by: The_nun on January 13, 2006, 07:47:49 PM Quote refreshed and revitalised OK OK ..I am just a dirty old NUN.. Seriousl though 4Dam.... you have a good game going for you. Take a day or 2 off now just like you said, You will retun a better player. Title: Re: Gone and done it... I am currently rebuilding my bankroll from next to nothing. Started with $220 spread over a few accounts and i've trebled it in a week and a half so it's going ok. My favourite is my VC account which stood at $0.69 and now houses $104. It's also good to go over all the stuff you learned when you first started this beautiful game by crushing the low limit fish. Lost me bankroll Post by: EvilSteve on January 15, 2006, 06:18:18 PM I find that when your on a good run of luck and constantly showing a profit for a while (say a few weeks) and consistantly making money from Poker it's easy to think you've cracked it and your gonna keep on winning forever. Next thing you know a few bad results and you've spunked the lot in a few days/hours. Now if I win a few quid I just cash out and then reload when I feel like playing now, keeping it in the account is too easy to go on tilt and do silly things and lose it all. I've never lost anything like 10K tho, I'd be gutted if I lost £100!
