Title: chipleader - how was it for you??? Post by: smurf on June 18, 2012, 04:30:11 PM i enjoyed it, some good play all round and everyone seemed friendly. I didn't make the money but well done to those that did. I heard others saying there could be plans for another one with a few tweaks to it. The one adjustment i would probably like would be a 30 min clock on day 1 and 40 on day 2 and if it gets played for 11-12 hours on day 1 perhaps start earlier...but that's just me (i am no night owl)...the whole experience seemed a success.
As it is impossible to match faces with online names it would be nice to see the starting stacks of the 18 cashes not necessarily in the order they finished if they wanted to stay anon. How did everyone else find it? Title: Re: chipleader - how was it for you??? Post by: Girgy85 on June 18, 2012, 04:43:57 PM Got my starting stack of 26,500 upto 111k at one point. Tried an audatios move on trumper with 97o which didn't get thru.
Would of been nice for everybody to have a name tag on with their online name. Title: Re: chipleader - how was it for you??? Post by: jack2off on June 18, 2012, 07:15:21 PM Thought it was great fun, not so sure I'd have enjoyed it as much if I had spent £1600 euros trying to get in!!!
Title: Re: chipleader - how was it for you??? Post by: SubZERO on June 18, 2012, 08:32:27 PM Great event, good atmosphere. Would def play again.
Structure was perfect imo, if there were any more runners then would probably have to alter it i cashed and started the event with 55k. Think a 30k stack also went deep too Title: Re: chipleader - how was it for you??? Post by: EvilPie on June 18, 2012, 08:39:09 PM I've not had so much fun at a poker table for a good few years.
Fantastic idea for a comp and hopefully there will be another along soon. I think DTD have to consider it a success to have had a reasonably small overlay compared to others they've had. I'd definitely like to see the buy in stay similar. I think trying to push it towards the bigger bankrolled players would be a mistake. Title: Re: chipleader - how was it for you??? Post by: paulpitchford on June 18, 2012, 08:40:49 PM I enjoyed it and will definitely play the next one. At least I think I remember enjoying it. The stuff I've been told since was a little embarrassing to say the least!
The next one is pencilled in for September though and not over the weekend of my birthday so I'll take the next one a little more serious! Title: Re: chipleader - how was it for you??? Next time round would prefer an earlier start to the day, as was shattered by the end of day 1 and had a 90 minute drive home afterwards. Also, they somehow need to avoid the late finish on a Sunday night/Monday morning, but not sure how easy this is to achieve without diminishing the end product. Perhaps 30 minute levels would help, along with a 1pm start - something like that. Must admit the novelty value of the tournament made for a friendlier atmosphere too. Looking forward to the next one and, having spoken briefly to Simon on Saturday, I'm sure the next one will be tweaked and improved (don't forget they were pretty much figuring things out through the course of this one). Title: Re: chipleader - how was it for you??? Post by: shipitonetime on June 19, 2012, 04:45:06 AM Great structure, very fun. Would def be interested in playing the next one. Great Job DTD!
Title: Re: chipleader - how was it for you??? Post by: corkeye on June 19, 2012, 07:35:40 AM Really enjoyed the tournament too, despite not getting through to day two. As a reg it's always good to see new faces make the journey across, and being wowed by the venue, and you hear people planning their next trip across, who are like 100s of miles away. Makes me realise how lucky I am being just down the road.
Really wish the online traffic for this tourney had been busier for this from the off, and that DTD hit the Gnt after all the work put in. Love it when there's a packed venue for a grand prix for example, while this was busy, there was room for more. I have a feeling that the September one will be epic and may well sell out, especially at that time of year when fewer people are away. Me and my mate (sub zero on here) are defo in. Ps - Evil Pie, i've read some of the updates from the tourney updates thread and figured out who you are, you bought me a pint, i was sat opposite you, doubt you can remember much though? Cheers for the beer, you were well funny/pissed. i'm kev btw ! :) Title: Re: chipleader - how was it for you??? Post by: aaron1867 on June 19, 2012, 07:43:13 AM Good to see everyone enjoyed.
I went to one of deep £150's a few weeks ago and I am sure I heard Rob saying to one of the punters that he wanted to make the event a £1m pot. Title: Re: chipleader - how was it for you??? Post by: booder on June 19, 2012, 10:40:52 AM Warning long post!
I don't get to play much live poker. Circumstances at home mean that it is not easy to get away for a couple of days, so having made arrangements to cover my absence i set off Friday evening on the two and a half hour journey to Nottingham to play the Chipleader tournament. I had been looking forward to playing this for what seemed like months,i really liked the whole concept and after a few tweaks to the buy ins and structures, enough people had played the satallites to get close to the guarantee.Obviously with such a new idea there was always going to be an overlay but it turned out to be not as great as i'm sure DTD feared , due in no small part to Nicola's hard work in promoting the event. Accomodation for the weekend was at Chez Evilpie and i am always very grateful and appreciative for Matt's hospitality. I arrived at aforementioned abode at 8.45pm and after greeting Matt and my old mate Ronnie the Rotty we headed to DTD to play another new tourny - the £50 turbo.I have racked my brain but i cannot recall a single hand that i played all i remember is Matt busting early and heading off to a club somewhere (although it later transpired that he went home to bed , lightweight). The tourny was pretty uneventful and before i knew , it was 3.30am and i had cashed for £270 for 6th place. I did have the honour of sitting out of position to Mr Bedi for a few hands, good luck in Vegas George. Kick off for the Chipleader was 2.30pm Saturday so after a decent fryup , we picked Mr Hopkin up and headed to the club, declining his request to be dropped off 200 yards from the club as he didn't want to walk in with us two :D The opening table had four non arrivals so we played five handed for the first two levels then six handed after that.I don't really enjoy short handed play as i am not really "creative" but copious amounts of alcohol and a really fun table combined to release the lag in me. I can remember raising or 3 betting 5 hands on the trot and then 3 barrelling a J72JK with 49off for a 50k pot.The table was playing like it was a home game and it was with great sadness that we eventually went 8 handed with 2 or 3 "serious" players. The whole of day one i hung around my starting stack (293k) give or take 30k then i played two big pots within two levels. Hand one - i raise KK in the cutoff and Steve Holden defends his bb.I have played quite a bit with Steve online over the years so i'm pretty aware of how he plays , i don't think he knows who i am though. Flop is 7 2 4r Steve check calls a 3/4 psb and we see a 7 turn.He now calls a psb and i know he is shoving the river as he has about 3/4 of the pot behind. The dealer puts a 5 out and Steve moves allin.I don't dwell much and get shown A3,sigh.The table breaks soon after and we get moved to table 11. This table is another fun table containing oldgit , Willis Marrow and Rob Ward. I chip up steadily thanks to a few compliant flops then not long before the end of the last level there are two limpers , ii make up the sb with 44 and the bb lady checks here option. The flop is a rather lovely 4A10 dd.I decide to check but to my surprise everyone else follows suit.Bingo, 10 on the turn and i lead small, the lady raises,i click it back and she shoves. She has K 10 and the dealer gives her the case 10.I finish the day on 94k returning at 3k/6k. I get back to Matt's and he arrives home shortly after, pissed , with 2 pizzas , chips and no door key.The pizzas get fed to Ron , Matt collapses on the floor and i retire to bed. Title: Re: chipleader - how was it for you??? Post by: booder on June 19, 2012, 10:41:22 AM Sunday. I shit , shower and shave and bid farewell to Matt and head back to the club to grind my small stack.10-15bb is more my comfort zone so inspired by Black Uhuru's Positive i get to work.I get a couple of double ups ,a couple of positional shoves and all of a sudden i have a decent stack.
We get a new player to the table , Matt Miners.I've never played with him before but i am to discover he is unpredictable, very unpredictable. We get involved quite early. He raises 33k utg (6k/12k 1k), i make it 89k utg+2 with AKss.He flats with 175k behind ,i have 360k behind. The flop is Q74dd and he instashoves. WTF.I'm pretty sure he shoves pre with QQ,KK,AA and AQ so i dwell and dwell and dwell. The only thing i can put him on is a flush draw 56dd,89dd,910dd so i kiss my chips and throw them in the pot. Foolish me , it should have been obvious he has Q9. Back to grinding, chipping up and then we get involved again and i dodge a bullet. Mr Miners limps and i look down at AQ.I politely ask for his chip count and i can feel the guy 2 seats to my left staring at me.He checks his cards again and stares some more and i'm thinking "bollox,he's got a hand behind me".I'm too short to fold this so i put the raise in and Mr Stare dwells , says "i'm making a big fold here" and asks the dealer to keep his cards to one side.Mr Miners folds and Mr Stare turns over his AK - he knew i was strong ;) A very short time later Mr Miners opens again and i flat Q10cc on the button. The flop is a rather beautiful 893ccc(i know - mbn). He checks to me , which is the first time he has not c bet so i assume a chunky reraise is coming.I make it 50k and he slides a large stack of chips into the middle.I'm quite happy putting my stack over the line and after the dealer counts it down ,it is 30k more to Mr Unpredictable...and he folds !! I'm now over 500k but the blindskeep going up and i find no spots or hands and get 3 bet a couple of times and we get to 10k/20k and i have circa 320k. It folds to me on the button and i shove KJhh.Mr Stare from earlier thinks and calls , covering me , Whoops. He has 10 10 so at least i have overs. F lop comes 456 7 8 weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Bullet no 2 dodged. We break tables and get moved ,down to 4 tables. Morale is most definately good. 15k/30k stack is 400k ish and Harnak Singh shoves 240k , pretty standard reshove with AJhh and his KQcc hits the turn. Very next hand , utg raises , eventual winner Mark James shoves , i have 150k and 66.I could fold and hope to double to 10bb or take a shot at getting to 15bb. He has A 10 . QJ9 flop spells danger and the 8 duly turns. Wasn't really any need to bang the table Sir. So 22nd. Close but no cigar. Was one of the most fun competitions i have played , hopefully i'll get the chance to play another. Was great to see some old faces , Sherriff and Kinboshi , and to meet some new ones leethefish, mrs leethefish, girgy ,j gill and of course Caroline Cougar. Mustn't forget Mr Hopkin, and eternal gratitude to Mr Russell. It's been emotional. Title: Re: chipleader - how was it for you??? Post by: Girgy85 on June 19, 2012, 10:51:06 AM Good couple of posts.
