Title: Sainsburys Travel Money - Buy Back Plus
Post by: MLHMLH on June 22, 2012, 05:22:13 PM
Just want to highlight an impressive deal currently being offered by Sainsburys Travel Money service.  You can order dollars in cash or travellers cheques online or instore and pay an additional £3.99 for their Buy Back Plus (fixed price irrespective of transaction value).  This gives you the ability to take any unused dollars (or dollars won in Vegas!) back to Sainsburys within 31 days of your original order date and they will buy them back from you at the same rate you paid for them, up to the value of the original transaction.

So as an example, I just collected $1530 which cost me just over £1000 at a rate of 1.5265 plus I paid the additional £3.99.  I have until 22nd July now to take up to $1530 back to Sainsburys and as long as I show them my transaction receipt they will buy these back from me at 1.5265.  Their usual buy back rate (as at today) is 1.73...so, let's say I have a decent win in Vegas and want to change back the full amount of $1530 when I return, they would normally only pay me £884 for them, but with the Buy Back Plus facility they will pay me £1002.29 for them.  Well worth the £3.99 punt when you buy the dollars!  I've checked the t&cs and small print and can't see any catches at all.

Hope this helps (if you haven't already set off to Vegas of course).

Michelle

That is actually a pretty standard offering from the currency companies.

I got the same thing at the Airport, can't remember from whom, though.

OK I wasn't aware until yesterday as I've not had to buy any dollars for a while, so just thought others might not be aware.

May have been Travelex Tikay?  It looks as though Sainsburys Travel Money is actually Travelex in disguise!

Still worth highlighting for those that don't know.

Travelex online were offering the guaranteed best online rates in the uk, don't know if that still applies or not. The only thing I would say to people is don't get currency at the airport as that is a big fish move and the rates deffo won't be as good as online.

That's them, yes, thanks. Did not know there was a Sainsbury's tie in.

Good that you mention the deal though, some may not be aware. For most of us, especially me, we'd be grateful to bring any $$$'s home anyway.....

A spread of 1.5265 - 1.73 seems massive.

The exchange place down the road from me has a spread of 4 cents.

In the past I've found Money Shop the best exchange rate. If you change over £500 they gave you a better rate than in the window and you could exchange back at no extra cost or fee. That was last year so check first if using them.

Always worth putting out info Michelle, there's always folk who will benefit.

Best of luck in Vegas x
