Why?

Best rider of his generation by a long way, great role model for other sportsmen.

hate? what a strong word

never been my favourite jockey and i dont believe he is as good over fences as maybe a dozen of his contemparies but one of the toughest sportsman around

my view of him now is slightly less now he has to handicap some of the jonjo mince though

No opinion, but the horses need more credit for his success, they are the poor fuckers doing all the work, and just for a bit of hay when they get home. Poor little things  ::)

Madness, surely can only be pocket talking?

A couple of meetings ago at Market Rasen he had 3 or 4 odds on and fancied rides and got beat on them all,

Some big chap on our box balcony shouts down to him as he was coming off the track tat he would

be better off climbing back into his helicopter and buggering off back home,

10 minutes later he came bursting into the box wanting to take this big guy on.

My opinion is that when he is at the forefront he should of behaved better, all leading sportsmen have to take a little abuse.

Was good fun sitting back and listening to them both though.

No doubt he blamed the horses mate, it wouldn't be his fault if he lost would it  ;whistle;

Winningest but not necessarily the best, Ruby Walsh is a far better horseman.

This but McCoys sheer desire is up there with any sportsman alive and I cannot see how anyone can not love the man.  For the sake of this thread I am going to pretend Woodsey isn't posting.  He has got me too many times before ;-)

I'd much rather know, or understand, why this "hate" thing became so commonplace amongst the younger generation.

I might manage "hate" for those responsible for war crimes, genocide, etc, but hate a sportsperson whio is just doing their job, & you have probably never met?

The world has gone nuts, it really has.

I'm not ranting at you Aaron, I just don't get all the hate these days. Believe me - I see so much hate, on so many levels, for such trivial things. It's scary. Maybe I should show you the hate mail I get, every damn day.

I see the BBC are cooing over some random aussie horse on telly now. How come they aren't talking about the jockey?

he is paid a massive sum for being retained by jp mcmanus who is a massive owner who regularly buys overpriced horses that he then handicaps and occasionally punts them (far from the only one to do this)

taken a bit of a shine of him for me , he used to be never say die mccoy now by association with jonjo and jp he is never say die mccoy when the time is right.

Tbh, very weird thread Aaron, must be your pocket talking to even post; if it said AP - greatest ever jockey, maybe some good debate; however how can you hate the man? His dedication, integrity, commitment to racing, loyalty to his friends and trainers is so well renowned. As well as a top jockey, hes a top guy; he often socialised at my friends pub and apparently - as he doesn't drink, was always nominated driver and would give people lifts home and stay, after he had made it.  So it's a love from me and a hate the thread

You obviously never saw Luke Harvey in his prime.....

I was McCoy's biggest fan until a couple of years ago.

His ride on one of JP's in the Tote Gold Trophy was a complete disgrace and I felt like booing when it nearly won at the Cheltenham Festival.

Glad I didn't, he might have decked me.

Tikay,

I know you're not ranting, it's fine. I just couldn't perhaps think of a topic letter than the topic name I have got. I definitely don't hate him, but I am not a lover either.

Why?

I have no idea, this isn't my bank account talking, because I don't bet on a horse because of jockey, bet on the horse, then have a browse at a jockey. But of late he hasn't done well, I heard someone talking and he said he wouldn't be on AP with stolen money and said he would not win the next race. Sure enough, he didn't win the next race and in the view of people around, he rode the horse like a nob.

I think this is actually the Market Rasen card that someone mentioned, he had some decent horses.

Another question and perhaps I am others are wrong on this and I ask this, because I am not a horse racing specialist, but does AP ride a lot better in big races, or perhaps the answer is within my question?

I take the hate thing back though.

I hate lots of things: sweetcorn, carrots, peas but not sure if there are that many people I would say I hate, apart from Russell Brand obv who I utterly detest.

I think a lot of his present form is down to the changes in the use of the whip. I'd have loved to see Mcoy aboard Russell Brand coming over the last with 5 lenghts to make up.

Look, the trouble with this country is that we don't get behind our success stories.

If Steve davis had been a yank the whole whole of America would of been behind him, just like the aussies and Black Caviar.

We seem to slate and try to find some kind of smut as soon as someone becomes successful.

Lets just forget this thread because the heading is shameful really.

Real winners are fuming if they lost on 3-4 favorites on a race day, they would be beating themselves up inside about each and every lose. The last thing you would need it some fukwit punter shouting at you like their the expert..I wouldn't see a problem with a true winner losing it in that situation.

I am not really bothered about whether AP is "love him or hate him"

I saw his behaviour at Market Rasen and about 7 years ago i witnessed him lose on 4 odds on shots at Fakenham

What i am saying is he has achieved a lot so lets celebrate a success

I personally never back him, but you can't take away his achievements
