The first record I ever owned was in ~ 1969 (I didn't buy it, we got it while out totting) was "Barracky Bert the Soldier" by Billy Bennet.

It was a 78 rpm (I shit you not) and I played it on a wind-up gramophone that we also got while out totting.

I borrowed several 45's of someone and they played fine on my gramophone until the needle turned them into something that looked like black lace doilies.

No just did it after I realised I had the last 3 of 1987, so carried it on!

All played once and then wrapped in a plastic sleeve.

Only really stopped as it was a different number 1 just about every week, so seemed pointless. I didn't like the change to CD either. Charts lost the appeal around same time... Even more so now IMO.

Anyone know the first ever CD only number 1?

Back in the day when I was a Neighbours fan  :D

Suddenly
Angry Anderson
1986/87?  ( I think I was 6 or 7 ).
Bought from Fine Fare.

This was the song played when Scott and Charlene got married. Jeeeez I must have been a real wimp kid back then,  hahaha.

Its still a good song though, I just listened to it on youtube as a reminder.

Did you know Angry Anderson is a part time cleaner now.

That was the first record I owned, but it was bought for me, so doesn't count.

I remember buying the Adam Ant one with a record voucher I got for Christmas from my Aunt and Uncle.  £5 voucher, and the album cost £3.95.  Amazing how things like that stick in the mind, but I'm hard pressed to remember some details from yesterday!
