Dexys Midnight Runners 12 inch single 1982 Title: Re: First record you bought? Post by: RED-DOG on June 25, 2012, 06:38:20 PM The first record I ever owned was in ~ 1969 (I didn't buy it, we got it while out totting) was "Barracky Bert the Soldier" by Billy Bennet.
It was a 78 rpm (I shit you not) and I played it on a wind-up gramophone that we also got while out totting. I borrowed several 45's of someone and they played fine on my gramophone until the needle turned them into something that looked like black lace doilies. Title: Re: First record you bought? Title: Re: First record you bought? Post by: Waz1892 on June 25, 2012, 09:15:06 PM No just did it after I realised I had the last 3 of 1987, so carried it on! All played once and then wrapped in a plastic sleeve. Only really stopped as it was a different number 1 just about every week, so seemed pointless. I didn't like the change to CD either. Charts lost the appeal around same time... Even more so now IMO. Anyone know the first ever CD only number 1? Title: Re: First record you bought? Grease, the original soundtrack That was the first record I owned, but it was bought for me, so doesn't count. I remember buying the Adam Ant one with a record voucher I got for Christmas from my Aunt and Uncle. £5 voucher, and the album cost £3.95. Amazing how things like that stick in the mind, but I'm hard pressed to remember some details from yesterday! Title: Re: First record you bought?
