I got talking to a guy from USA a few weeks ago and he started saying how the world thinks we have the best force in the world, but do we? It's not even the first time I've heard someone from a differencet country say this, so got me wondering really.

Also, I remember watching or reading something from an American media outlet saying we had a fantastic force too, but this was years ago.

But do we? I do not know. Maybe one of the best, but not the best?

Easy to knock them, likewise the NHS, but from my experience of both in this country and abroad I think they are the best in the world.

Yah, You only need to have travelled a bit to realize how lucky we are tbh. Once you get out of Western Europe/The US/AUS etc it goes downhill rapidly!

This. I have no idea how our bobbies fare on the world rankings, but I have a load of friends who are police officers and I've seen just how hard they work and how tough a job it is. That 'Coppers' show should be mandatory viewing.

I don't think you could really make any meaningful league table to see who was top.

But you could group countries together as roughly equivalent - our police force would probably be in the top tier for sure.

I have had 'dealings' with UK police, Estonian police and German police. +1 to ours being the best, certainly the least corrupt and most professional.

We knock most things in this country far far too quickly.

Army

All of the above are World Class, Professional, and the very best of this country and what makes Great Britian, Great.

Living in Thailand does make you appreciate the police and ambulance services here!

OK let me rephrase my post.

The police in this country are fking crap at arresting people and solving crime unless its a big money or notorious case.

And without a doubt there will be corruption in the UK police force.

They look good but that's about it. Obv this is my own opinion and personal experience.

Guess I'm just basing my opinion on Thailand where the police are so corrupt it's rediculous.

There was a Russian guy who killed someone in Phuket in bar fight and it cost him about $60,000 to get off all the charges, pay the relevant people off and get out of the country.

Drugs is probably the one thing you are gonna have trouble with over there if you're selling but everything else, if you have money, you can pay your way out of.

There is a policeman who live in my area - his house is absolutely insane - it's ridiculously huge when most people live in such basic housing. This guy's basic is about 10k baht per month - around 200 quid. They're just taking backhanders and bribes for everything.

I think the UK police have to do too much paper work though.

They have their hands tied pretty much. Too many crims get off with shit by going no comment. Not a big fan of police in this country but at least they can't give you a kicking like they do abroad

Figures could be spot on. We have a few bent coppers around here too that are the worse sort of coppers.

Paperwork is a problem, red tape, the law does seem to favour the crims.
I gave the police details of people which may have led to recovery of a government restricted laptop which may or may not have contained sensitive information with regards to the armed forces that was over 12 months ago and nothing happened. I got burgled and gave the police details of where they could have recovered stolen property, this was 8 months ago and still nothing happened.
This is why they are crap in my opinion.

Yeah pretty much have next to no chance of a conviction if this line is taken and a lot of cases don't even get past CPS if some sort of confession or evidence supplied from the interview

Obv this, I've personally had a shit experience with them were some of them were complete and utter twats, that doesn't mean they're all twats.

Some good cops and some terrible ones, just like everything in life.

I kinda like the idea of the police giving crims a kicking actually. I know it's open to abuse, but still.

They would need to wear helmet cams thou so an independent panel could review the incident and decide if the kicking was justifiable. For example, if the police catch some young hoodie burglar in the act the panel can rule that kicking him in the stomach and delivering several baton strikes to the head was reasonable.

That's just the worst idea!

Thats silly Mantis. Dropped on a young lad in Ibiza beaten up black and blue. Coming out of a club with one E in his pocket, sees cops panics and runs. Cops get him, bundle him in copcar. Take him a few miles away get him out beat shit out of him and leave lad for dead. Has'nt been like that round here since the miners strike. We used to get the Met up here. At weekends they were bored so when you come out of a nightclub not joking their would be ten black mariahs lined up. These bastards just attacked randoms walking home.

Meh, its not the worst idea for some of the vermin around these days. For some of the worst repeat offenders they should just adopt the Brazilian approach  :-X
