Title: Fake notes @ G Casino, Sheffield. Cash game.
Post by: aaron1867 on July 11, 2012, 11:21:23 PM
I am sure some of you who play in and around Sheffield may have heard about this which happened about 3 months ago.

I was there that night and thankfully did not get strung, but what are people's views.

At this particular cash table it is full of the usual regulars and 1 or two dropping in players, etc. At this cash table cash is getting used instead of chips and obviously someone has come onto the table with fake notes. You can guess what has happened and people have been stung and players AND casino have realised this.

A lady who I know and talk to when she is in has been stung and she is not best happy. This was something to the tune of over £100. I don't think since then she has visited as much as she would do usually.

But should the casino pay out on these? Should it have happened?

Since then it has become chips only.

Theres a dealer. Always annoys me that theres cash in play there, one of the reasons I dont go often.

Also the regs are so fking annoying whenever you ask them how much cash they have. Its like your asking to ejaculate on their grandmother or something

Casino should definitely make good on the fake notes then.

If it's a house dealt game, the casino is vicariously liable for this.  They are duty bound to control all cash at their tables hence making the casino liable for any lose here..

The only issue that you'll come across is, if the players didn't complain or notice while still in the casino/on the table.  It'll then be your duty to prove that the fake notes were obtained on the poker table in the presence of a casino employee.

I'm thinking that the casino wouldn't want negative publicity etc so if the amounts are small ie 2-5k they'll just pay up after some probing..

good luck

Surely its even easier to shoot an angle when we have a 10k wrap etc.

I think this happened over one night and the amount was reasonably small from what I gathered.

I think 3 regulars got stung for around a total of £300, so for the life of me I couldn't understand why they have not paid it out. Nobody at the table seems to know who it was and apparently this person did get caught to some degree days after on CCTV. But who knows.

Not to mention another lady had her bag stolen in the place.

Sigh for the casino.

Casino will never pay out, can't understand why they we're allowed to play with cash either.

Absolutely this - cash on the table is wrong in just about every way possible

Simple way to avoid this is any cash that is bought to the table is changed for chips by the dealer straight away without notes ever having to move from player to player or be exchanged for chips between players. Cash on the table annoys me a lot, partly because it allows things like this to happen and also because you always have to ask how much someone has in notes as its impossible to count and (as has happened to before to me) stops somebody trying to get a ruling midhand (to try and angle me out of a pot) accusing me of reloading for more than the max (where, whether or not it was the case  ;whistle;, we had played more than an orbit since I'd reloaded and they had way less than the max anyway during this hand) as chips make everything easier to see and obviously if changed by the dealer, they know exactly how much people are reloading at the time

How were the culprits caught? you said CCTV? did the players realize the £20 notes were Furgazi's at the table...? If so the casino should cover the notes that they know about..

It was indeed £20's.

I actually went in on Thursday night for a couple of hours and realised that the lady who got ripped off with the £20's is actually back in! Still they are only playing with chips on the table. Do all casinos let people on with cash?

Sadly, the casino has gone down hill and I have been the first person to admit this to them and was faced with being barred for airing my views. The casino has so much potential in one of the biggest poker cities in the UK and the card room is going to waste with freerolls and other nonsense.

Next up for Sheffield is the opening of Gentings. I think the whole of Sheffield is excited for this, because they are ran so well and offer a maximum rake of £5, which is half of the G Casino rake. I personally think this will be the end of the card room at Queens Road.

They said all that about naps when G was opening and it never shut naps. Poker players are fickle and follow the value

Yeah - remember people saying the same.

The Napoleons at Hillsborough looks to be in good shape and always has a high number of customers in, but the Napoleons on Eccy Road is doing poorly and some weeks and months have gone by when they have seen a significant loss on the night, not to mention the place being dead most nights. They have 15 staff on a night and probably not many more customers than that in the week. My personal opinion of this is that the profit being created at Hillsborough is keeping Eccy Road open.

The card room at G/Sheffield has been in decline for a long time. The place started very well with big games and decent numbers, but they could not take the hit any more. Two or three times they had to put £5k into the pot when they did those £30r/£15k guarantees. They chopped that, then the £50r/£8k and now only have one big game left! It now has 2 or 3 freerolls and one other game that generates 30+ runners most weeks. It is for sure in decline.

All they have left is the deep 1/2 table and that will go when Genting open and they offer smaller rake charges.

I am not even sure we need a 4th casino in Sheffield!
