I got advised to use ghostery, it's free and blocks all those add tracking stuff. Will try the above as well as it's been something I should have done ages ago.

Gotta lol at using any microsoft product for security.

for all the nits out there, if you do online banking your bank should/might provide free licenses for the big name brands, barclays certainly do.

All Norton and Mcafee manage to do is grind your system to a halt.  The memory overhead is outrageous.   I use free version of Avast (download from CNET) and Malwearbytes antimalware.   Never have any issues.

...

Why? Every internet security review I've seen has put Microsoft Security Essentials right up near the top so why would you bother looking for another one?

:D

Anyone who knows me knows that I certainly don't worry about coughing up for stuff.

This setup works much better than Webroot, Norton and or other security software I've had from a functionality pov.

I've used MS Essentials for ages now without any issues whatsoever. Coupled with free AVG and Malwarebytes my PC's run very well.

lololol pre conceived ideas.

ya cos microsoft are new

for a company that has made billions and billions and billions out of licensing software for it to be so utterly shit and never get properly rebuilt is pathetic.

obviously I don't use computers, haven't used a range of operating systems over the years and used most web browsers suites of programmes etc. Microsoft sure have provided the best software by miles around, my favourite parts are the regularity with which the screen used to go blue and the ability for there to be daily 'security loopholes' that came around that turned out it was as hole ridden as swiss cheese.

what really fking pisses me off is that retards in public office have been allowed to implement Windoze systems in areas where they need to be secure. absolutely farcical.

Those retards in public office pay my mortgage every month. :)

It's weird how you start off lol'ing about the idea of having pre-conceived ideas about whether MSE would be any good - and then spend the rest of the post proving how you have a pre-conceived idea about how their security software will be on the basis of how their operating systems and other software has worked.

I'm glad you can pay your mortgage, it's still ridiculous that people employ cack software and just say 'but everyone uses it'.

For mission critical stuff i'd wanna see a unix hybrid specifically designed for the network/system whatever we are talking about.

I sit in my pants chilling for a living thanks very much. I'm a neet :)

So Jon you're saying i'm wrong because yes they have a history of writing appalling software, compiling more stuff on top of awful code and then not fixing it but that they have a security department who are obv the bawse? what are you talking about?

given that they are shit with coding properly/with standards and couldn't care less about updating code and problems they have been aware of for years, why would I EVER ASSUME their security stuff deemed essential would actually know the definition of the word.

I don't think anyone should assume that they would know what they were doing, and I definitely wouldn't assume that they would make a decent security programme.

But I wouldn't assume that they definitely wouldn't make one either.

And if people who know about such things say it's a decent piece of software - then I'd be more inclined to believe that they knew what they were talking about rather than blindly clinging on to my previous assumptions.

Do we need a mod for security software?

The guy that put me onto it knows his onions, so that's enough for me and since I've had it

I haven't had any security or pc problems

My internet banking hasn't been compromised

I can still access tube8 etc. with no issues....

The only code I know anything about is morse, so Microsoft code isn't something I worry about....

I used to pay £39 or something for Webroot, that's money that goes in the lapdancing fund for Vegas and another tick in the box from me ;)

Aside from that Webroot is like a fking virus on my laptop, I can't remove it... Being such an IT fish have to put up with it scanning once a week asking if I want to upgrade  ;grr;

Granted my opinions are a tad dated or at least based on annoyance/frustration that is dated but I still could never think that they could ever provide a competent security product, when all security stuff is just trying to fix their initial incompetence and refusal to recode on such a large scale.

Totally agree with this post except for the middle line, based on my experiences with them i'd have to assume it's cack.

Having been told otherwise I am not disbelieving as I do not know enough 'truly up to date' stuff. You can surely see why I would assume it's pants though?

Dewi are you offering lol? Self modding imo, ban this titaniumbean microsoft hate troll what's he ever won in marrakesch?!
