Whole thing is a farce. The minute people stop turning up they will stop hosting these ridiculous events

should just have one category "who ran the best in 2012" and make the winner give a few bags to charity.

I'm not really one for awards, I am often suspicious as to who does the nominations and even more suspicious about how the winners are decided, however, it is nice for the DTD staff to see that 4 out of 6 of the best nominated tournaments are at DTDm albeit we are just the venue hosting the event. Something to smile about for our staff during a tough year for the club :)

Whoever wins, Rob, we all know DTD is the stone cold nuts. Best conditions, great atmosphere, a good standard of play, exceptional value for us mug punters and the small matter of a Caribbean trip!

Sounds like I'm blowing proverbial smoke but that is just how it is.

Comps like the Grand Prix and the record UKIPT leg will be spoken about for years to come.

It's the only one around run by poker players for poker players and it shows.

As someone who has been a part of several awards ceremonies in various roles for the poker and gambling world over the years, I am inclined to agree. But people love them.

Not sure if it's the same crowd running this one as the one I went to, but whatever about the awards, it was a good night out.

Not in any order.

1. Poker awards (including the Hall of Fame)
2. Internet poker sites who expect player to wear their patch on tv without any financial incentive.
3. Team poker.
4. Players with huge egos even though they are shite players. (If this was in order, this one would be number 1 I think)
5. Private games/poker clubs who charge outrageous rake.
6. Tipping
7. Players who waste time in pots making trivially easy decisions.
8. Players who make comments about pots taking place when they have already folded.
9. Players who embarrass or upset inexperienced players by criticising their play.
10. Television cameras influencing the play of a poker tournament.

LOL ty, that was fast you didn't need to think long about those  :D  Hard to disagree with many of those, the wasting time in pots really gets on my tits, its got worse in the last few years.

Oooh. I missed the one which tilts me more than any other.

Live turbo tournaments.

(not the actual tournaments.. but the way players still dwell up like they are playing the WSOP Main event)..

I certainly will never play a live turbo ever again.

And the way they ar raked at the same level as regular tournaments even though they take half or less time to finish.

British Poker Awards Surpasses 5,000 Voters

Still time to have your say as London gears up for the British Poker Awards

12 September 2012 (London, UK)- The British Poker Awards has received over 5,000 online voters, organisers of the ceremony announced today. The BPA is the awards show where the public gets to decide the winners, picking their favourites from number of categories, including Best Tournament Player, Best Cash Player, Best Online Player and Poker Personality of the Year.

The nominees in each category have been decided by a judging panel that includes Bluff Europe, PokerNews.com, PokerListings.com, PokerStrategy.com and “The Voice of Poker” himself, Jesse May.

The ceremony itself will be held aboard the HMS President in London this coming Monday, 17th September, but there’s still time to cast your vote over the weekend at www.thebritishpokerawards.com.

Michael Caselli, who will be co-presenting the awards said: “These awards work because people are enthused to vote in their droves. As long as the British public are involved, these awards are a success and we get a real true vision of who everyone believes is the best of the best in British Poker.”

Neil has penned a blog for Bluff Magazine for some time now.

He has also Blogged for THM for as long as I can remember, going back many a year.

He also Blogs for his own Poker Site, the name of which momentarily escapes me. (Cue Mr Channing reminding me, "happy to be of help" style).

His writing is a joy to read, imo, especially as he religiously steers clear of "so the flop came down" type tales.

In his acceptance speech, he suggested that a far more worthy winner would be Lil Dave, & I think he meant it sincerely. Which reminds me of a mini-gripe I have. Later, maybe. 

I don't think they grasp the idea of what a blog actually is......what bad beat does it not blogging more advertising and whatever, however entertaining it may be. Blogs should be a warts and all hosh/posh of a poker player, non poker stories and all..

To be fair, it was best blogger/social media. And it was readers choice.

I don't think that is fair or true Mr Acid - yes, he DOES do some spammy BBP stuff - he has bills to pay, & I think thats fair enough, & we don't have to read them - but the vast bulk of his Blogs are not BBP-targeted.

I do take your point as to Blogs more generally. I just don't think the "spammy" part is always true in his case. He writes some decent spam-free stuff.

This was not a "Panel" Award, he was voted "Best Blogger". 

Yes not slating his blogs, I have read a few and some really good insights into the game. Just not what I consider a true blog. I guess the millions that voted otherwise disagree :)

The Social-Media thing seemed to be part of it, too, & he deffo Tweets some great one & two liners. 

Messrs Kimber, Marhrenholz, Channing & myself chewed the cud over Tweeting last night, & we all agreed that one of the most interesting Tweeters for real perceptive & insightful Tweets is Camel.  Perhaps we should nominate him for an Award next year.

We will pay him to attend, obv.

I love Neil's work but did not know it was a blog as such. Actionjack writes some of the funniest articles I read but I don't think they are blogs. Neil would have 100% been sincere about the lildave's comments. Lildave's is a pure blog written from the heart warts n all.

I agree with a lot of the awards and disagree with a few but that's the nature of nominations. Did you want me to sign up to the hendonmob forum and sabotage it  for next year :)

think i might have to start using twitter but can never get my head round it

 I honestly think Lil Dave writes a brilliant blog and he would have been a worthy winner. The award was for "Best Blogger and Social Media". I think he would be the first to admit that I am much more active on Facebook and Twitter than he is, or would ever like to be.

 My blog has been going for seven years now. It gets sent to about 500 contacts in my address book and then appears on BBP and after a day or so on The Hendon Mob. It is a short essay on my life so I reckon that qualifies it as a blog. The current gap is the longest I have gone without writing one and it is an honest description of what I am up to at the time. A lot of what I am up to is going in the office and running BBP as well as speaking to staff and customers - I have been running it full time all this year. It's hard for me to describe my life without mentioning it.

 I do try VERY hard to not spam BBP in the blog in the same way that I try to NEVER write a hand that isn't either very funny or has a point that is part of the story. I definitely do mention if BBP has a live event and I've been working hard to sell tickets or if we just had one and it was great fun and I want to congratulate the winner or if we backed a guy in an event and he won - of course I would mention those things - it's a large part of my life. If you can find a blog where I mention the buy-in, date or time of an efvent BBP are having you deserve a big prize though.

 As for Facebook. I am a relentless spammer there. I have had, in my time, around 10,000 Facebook friends. Many of them want my time, many of them want my money, many of them I have never met and am never likely to meet. I own and run a poker business and they play poker. Thinking one move ahead, what would they expect me to use my Facebook account for.

 Anyway - I was very proud to win.

 I personally loved Tikay's WSOP blogs, I always read Lil Dave within ten minutes of a new one coming up. I think Karl is hilarious on Twitter and I generally love all the people I followor I wouldn't follow them.

 This one was voted by people going to the website so being on TV and having Facebook and Twitter followers as well as a website where you can ask people to vote for you is always going to shorten your odds.

 I was on the players panel and it's a tricky job. When they ask you to rate the bar in the Derby casino and you have never even been to Derby it's tricky. I believe they had 50 players and many would have been columnists on the mag like Jeff Jaffa, Snoopy, myself, Nicky Power etc.

 Yes the awards are probably a load of bollocks. It's good for the industry though, nice feel-good stories. It's also a really good business. I wish I'd have thought of it. They get a sponsor for the night, everyone likes to turn up for free, the trophies are not expensive, they now have 5000+ emails to spam online casino stuff to, the website has click-through stuff which gives them affiliate revenue. Easy money.
 

I think the amount of abuse and criticism Neil gets for running a business is utterly ridiculous. I was about to go off on a rant about poker players then, but realised where I was!  :) ;)

His blog is also consistently excellent and is one of the few in poker I really look forward to reading and am genuinely excited when I see there is a new one. Lildave's is one of the others.

But they are both so different that's it's almost silly to compare them.

It's a nice blend between poker and business spam. Not sure there has been any criticism of him or his blogs on here. I think the really interesting debate is what constitutes a blog, my idea differs from others and thankfully we can have a discussion about it civilly.  Neil really doesn't need to justify having a well read blog and a multi million pound business to us forum people :) we all wish we were a quid behind his riches :)

Sorry I wasn't talking about you and didn't mean that as a dig. I was referring more to some of the stuff I see on facebook, which just makes me despair of the poker world.

Neil's blog is excellent I've been reading it way longer than I first ever met him, the stick he gets for BBP spam is silly, even my friends say "ffs Channing sending me FB msg's about BBP wtf" I get them, I don't really understand why they tilt anyone lol, Its a FB msg if you cba with it just click the lil X at the top and move on with life!

As for the  award would have been a nice thing to win, I was looking forward to putting "2012 Best Poker Blog" on the top of my new site when I get it sorted :D but like has been said "best blogger and social media user" if we're being totally honest I don't think I am the best Blogger + Social Media user in poker, both Neil and Vicky are better in this catorgory than me. NC a worthy winner of the award imo. It doesn't feel like i lost anything, was a lovely thing to be nominated for and loads of people recently sent msgs saying they like reading my blog is really nice, EVEN THE MTHRFKN CAMEL has been reading it!

Going to use the disappointment of missing out as a good excuse to go out drinking tonight.

Lildave,I dont actually mind Neils/Dtd's promoting their business as you gotta do what you gotta do. Your blog is without doubt in my mind the best one this year but as it also included social media I can see why you did not win. Fwiw I thought Tikays video blogs from last years wsop did not get the recognition they deserved.

But when someone wins something for "best" of anything and a boat load of people thinks she could be "worst" then it makes a mockery of the whole thing.

Or it's about celebrating all the good things the past 12 months in British poker have brought us and picking a notional "winner" in each section is a logical but largely symbolic inevitability.

The best thing in British poker this year will be George playing poker in his onesies after losing his prop with Stato :)
