According to the EPT, those set to play include Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Jonathan Duhamel, Eugene Katchalov, Leo Fernandez and Jason Mercier. Others joining them on the felt will be Sam Chartier, Tobias Reinkemeier, Scott Seiver, Erik Seidel, Mike McDonald, Kyle Julius, Dan Shak, Steve O’Dwyer, Peter Jetten, Alec Torelli and Philipp Gruissem. Charming place, but incompetence is too much. The last time I played there was a Spanish poker tour event, where we played 3 and a half hour days, and couldn't persuade the organisers that it wasn't quite the normal thing. I made day 4 and barely got above the starting stack Title: Re: EPT Barcelona thread Post by: pleno1 on August 20, 2012, 07:02:52 PM Goog to write a huge post about this. Absolutely inexcusable. So so many bad things. Title: Re: EPT Barcelona thread Post by: The Camel on August 20, 2012, 07:03:19 PM Possibly the worst registration process I've ever seen here this week. But they have bucked their ideas up and it's very efficient now. Shame Barca isn't as good. I cued up for over 6 hours to play 4 tournaments (1 I didn't even play) whilst I bought in online already. So so many bad things. +1 I think that they massively underestimated demand tho. So many tournies cancelled. Was in a 1 day supersat that with about 40 runners left was told that only 3 more levels were to be played as they couldn't run anything past 4.30am. While everyone was up in arms, I do wonder if its local gaming laws that held them back. But yeah the reg process was unreal. Not enough staff to cope. The cash games were insane. I think the main poker room had like 20-25 tables and when I went there on Sunday there were about 10 open with literally hundreds of people on the list. The casino just didn't have the dealers and I heard that they were doing some incred long days. The dealer I know got shipped in on 2 weeks notice and are working 16 or 17 hour days, in shit air con, I'm surprised they're taking it so well. I think it's a case of a victim of it's own success, the fields have just been overwhelming. Although the Spanish are not motivated by tips, it's just not in their culture. I've lived here on and off for 2 years, I'm no expert, but you just have to take a deep breath, and expect nothing to happen quickly, that's Spain, siesta's and more bank holidays than you can imagine. Once you've come to terms with that it's an amazing place to live. Just maybe not the best for logistics especially when poker tournaments and air con settings are involved.. On day one Aku Joentausta held the lead. Then heads were turned by the return of Ilari Sahamies to live tournament poker. Then a third contender emerged in the form of 20-year-old Joni Jouhkimainen, whose recent form tipped us off to a likely final table appearance.
But there was another player, lost in the euphoria and waiting for his moment. That was Mikalai Pobal who tonight confounded everyone to pull off an unlikely win, one of the biggest surprises in tour history. He claimed the EPT Barcelona title, a HD3 Slyde watch, and €1,007,550. But the biggest surprise was that he was from Belarus, not Finland.
