Title: The Secret Footballer
Post by: Micko on August 12, 2012, 01:06:15 PM
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/aug/10/secret-footballer-undercover-premier-league

Very interesting read this - Any ideas who he is or could it be aload of crap.

The pool story in Dubai is interesting, my first thought was Teddy Sheringham ;D

Kevin Davies. Won 2 consecutive POY and was transferred for a record amount. Coming to the end of his career too

it is Kevin Davies

I am aware he was caught in a very bad position with his finances through little fault of his own

Yes I can't see it being Teddy losing all his cash due to big tax bill or able to write that well . (Been a regular column in Guardian last season).

I meant I thought it was teddy who nailed the footballers  wife in Dubai.

Kevin Davies fits, but has he won any trophies though?  Reads like he is a fairly down to earth, unassuming guy and always got that impression from Davies.

I also thought Danny Murphy, but some bits dont really fit.

I think the important thing is what's being said. The worst part is that I read nothing in there that surprised me. That is genuinely upsetting.

There will be less extreme versions in every sport - rugby union can be very cliquey, with drinking and cocaine being almost cultural.

The whole culture needs to change. How can you punish Tal Ben Haim holding out on his Portsmouth contract or Steven Ireland with his bling or Ashley Cole for take your pick (pic?), when the attitude is bred like champion dogs?

Davies is an intelligent guy, and he fell prey to some of the darker sides of depression

A lot of the young kids with masses of money, no role models and not terribly bright have no chance of not going off the rails

having worked with plenty of footballers through my old man a large percentage are decent enough blokes just happen to be minted

a  small percentage are utter idiots and frankly horrible human beings, i very much doubt however this isnt the same in other well paying positions

So much this.

Is the same true of American Footballers, TightEnd? Plaxico Burress, Chad Ochocinco, allegedly Adrian Peterson and some chap called OJ?

Also pretty obvious that the cuckolded footballer was Peter Crouch.

Can't be. Article says he was asleep on a sun lounger. He'd need two.

Was a good read, Andy Johnsons name appearing on the comment section a lot. Could be a shout but cant see him being highly intelligent enough to write such an article.

Me & my friends being massive football fans are finding this very interesting. I think its Joe Cole personally. I think alot of the facts about this footballer will be true, but some will be fabricated to hide his true Identity.

Jesus, can't believe everyone is wasting so much time trying to guess who it is.

Obviously a journo talking to a player and fabricating/changing quite alot of stuff to put people off the scent.

They probably having a good laugh at people trying to guess who it and going as far as to set up a website to compile clues as though it's a freaking Agatha Christie puzzle.

The mystery is: why do so many people fall for it :)

The funniest one is when he puts in that he played with a player called Paolo who was good at free kicks!

Ooooooooh say the sleuths, he's given a big clue there!

As though he slipped the name in by accident.

Probably was a player called Paul who was good at free kicks, not Paolo di Canio.

Spent the last hour trying to get on a 3/1 shot which should be 1/3 and managing to get the grand total of £48 on.

That's why I'm grumpy!

Good point but stop being a party pooper. Some of it has to be true, alot fake. You just gotta filter the nonsense.
You must remember we are in a world where millions of people believe there once was a man who walked on water and rose from the dead.

That goal kept Beckham's halfway line goal against Wimbledon from winning Goal of the Season, I seem to recall.

Sensational finish.
