Title: Trying to make someone fold a set in a 3bet pot. Ambitious plans itt Post by: Pugwashed on August 13, 2012, 03:41:12 PM Playing Genting Poker Series Stoke. 2nd level of the main event. Don't know much about villain except that he looks early 20's and I haven't seen him do anything silly, I suspect he knows what he's doing at least a bit. I'm early 20's, beats headphones etc, have peeled a few opens in position but haven't really played any hands of note. Can't remember exact sizings but they're pretty close.
50/100, both of us have about starting stack 25k. Villain opens UTG+2 to 250. I 3bet 6h 8h to 650 from the button (my first 3bet), villain calls without much thought. Flop 854r, he check, I bet 750, he makes it 1650, I call. Turn is an A, he bets 2550, I call. River is T, stacks a bit over 20k, villain bets 5250. Given the description, how often would you expect villain to fold a set if we shove river? Never? A lot? Often enough? In the actual hand I never got the chance (and dont think I would've but I was considering it) as the river checked through and I beat K high. Even considering these plays live is a bad sign...

Ambitious plans itt Post by: Pugwashed on August 13, 2012, 04:07:25 PM Cool, I'm 95% sure I wouldn't have done it but I've been wondering how often it might work. Was just wondering cos I didn't think I could call the river when i could lose to some bluffs / merges with Ax and I don't like folding but probably woulda had to. Also, in theory he shouldn't be folding sets given that he becomes stupidly exploitable

seriously :D Title: Re: Trying to make someone fold a set in a 3bet pot. Ambitious plans itt Post by: Pugwashed on August 13, 2012, 06:17:51 PM 3b/fold flop. Don't think I like this. Firstly I think it's a spot where he could 4bet bluff the flop sometimes when he knows how thin he's repping and I could just be exploiting that and he probably realises I can't have a set so am only really repping straights in a spot where I very infrequently have one. Seems like a spot where I would flat my entire range on the flop given that his value range is pretty much just sets and almost my entire range becomes bluff catchers. I get that we stop him realizing his equity when he folds some random overcards. Is this also a big part of your reasoning? What would do with a less vulnerable hand like AA? Ambitious plans itt Post by: toddswain on August 13, 2012, 06:41:20 PM If you think hes capable of 4b bluffing a flop because he reps a thin range when he c/r's, then no point in dickswinging with him trying to make him fold sets. Its live poker, make a hand and just bet big :)
+1 to losing the headphones |
