Bit more expensive in terms of rebuys with the faster structure (unless you can get kings to hold occasionally) but obviously makes sense from DTD perspective and still a great value satellite. Looking forward to my third bash at this tourney (including one £200 buy-in) as I've really enjoyed the previous attempts, despite crashing and burning on day 1 after chipping up early. They obviously have a bigger effect than you'd think. Today's overlay must be down to the first game of the season? More likely a combo of weather and school holidays, Geo. Good weather has a massive effect upon poker, both live and online. It does not matter what you do with Guarantees, hot weather wins every time, IMO. The Olympics, of course, were a bit different to regular sports events. Title: Re: DTD £150 this weekend: £50,000 GTD Post by: robyong on August 18, 2012, 05:54:14 PM Shit happens guys, we just have to take it on the chin, its not often we misfire this badly, 107 on Friday is bang on what we expect, but 97 today is a nightmare, as a rule of thumb, we generally get double + the runners on Saturdays than Fridays, so clearly today (weather, first day of football, shit loads more live poker available every weekend, etc, whatever) is the problem! I dont think the weather effects headline events such as the 500 Deepstack coming up, but our general weekend stuff, it crucifies us. Our problem is that we are 90% pokercentric business - so we have to do half decent stuff every weekend, so we get caught a LOT more often that everyone else :( Even Alea in Leeds couldnt make a 15k GTE for £300 today, they got 30 runners and overlayed £6k, OCCUPATIONAL HAZZARD OF DTD DOING STUFF 52 WEEKS OF YEAR (therefore simple answer = do less of course)

It was hilarious rotflmfao Bad news about the potential overlay. How heavily do you think the number of runners would be affected if the guarantee was dropped to £25k? It's still a bloody big number and makes it worth the trip knowing you're in a pool of 167 ish runners. I would think most people are playing it anyway whatever the guarantee. Sure you'll get a few value hunters come along for late reg when they see the big overlay but I'd guess you're not particularly targeting those anyway? I'd assume that at this buy in level you're getting a lot of recreational players. I can't see them being overly concerned if it's £25k or £50k. Pros aren't going to make the effort unless they're local and the fact that they're local means they'll play it anyway. I know the big guarantees look lovely but apart from the huge comps which attract pros and amateurs from further afield I can't see how they're overly necessary. Kudos for sticking with them but I don't think anyone would complain if they were a bit lower. Would love to be playing £150 comps every weekend but more than one a month is asking a lot. Would at least need to run a lot better than I have been of late! Also true that a two/day comp eats up the entire weekend and 3 or more of those a month isn't as appealing to those who have other things on. Please don't take this as a rant. It's just like getting asked out on a date by all 5 of the Saturdays the same night you're due to see Sienna Miller. You know you can't complain but you have to make horrible sacrifices! It's just like getting asked out on a date by all 5 of the Saturdays the same night you're due to see Sienna Miller. You know you can't complain but you have to make horrible sacrifices! This is a very good point. It's often difficult for me to free up a full weekend for poker so I have to pick and choose which comps I'll play. I certainly can't play them all or I'd have no life outside of poker. In this respect I'll pick the one which is most appealing to definitely play (atm the £500k guaranteed) and maybe play something else if I've got nothing else on. Maybe one reason for the low turn out this weekend is that people are saving towards the £500k or doing their conkers trying to sat in? Love the analogy as well :D Title: Re: DTD £150 this weekend: £50,000 GTD Post by: robyong on August 18, 2012, 08:00:01 PM generally, not exactly, but on average a typical month at DTD would be:
Week 1 - £300 or £500 Deepstack Week 2 - One day event £100 ish ( we close Sunday) Week 3- £150 Deepstack 2 day event) Week 4 - Third party event, Sky, Blackbelt, Redtooth or we have a Grand Prix/Chip Leader then every few months something bigger, Supersized event, or WSOP (hmmmmmmmmmm) event then once a year - Monte Carlo / CPP type stuff Generally we have 26 weeks spare a year to do £150 Deepstacks or £100 one day events, sometimes we get stungs - sometimes we dont, today was OUCH and very wierd as Friday was on par with our expectations. Because we run so much poker stuff, the law of averages says we will come unstuck, at least it goes to the players and thats what DTD is about really, no matter what our knockers say, we pretty much chuck everything we make of reg fees back to the players and then the gaming we have pays our gaming tax bill. When our headline events screw up, like the £500 or the CPP, thats a serious body blow, when our weekly stuff goes wrong, its like a bad beat rather than getting knocked out the comp, so annoying but the show goes on - thanks for support :) Rob Title: Re: DTD £150 this weekend: £50,000 GTD Post by: istrabraq on August 18, 2012, 10:27:49 PM Manchester megastack usually 100/120 runners every month only 55 .

OVERDUE Title: Re: DTD £150 this weekend: £50,000 GTD Post by: TopTen on August 19, 2012, 01:35:54 PM Unfortunately I was on the receiving end of the "maniac" AKA Colin Marks.
He's got around 400k, raising every unopened pot and calling any raised pot. And flopping the world 90% of the time. The last hand of level 14 (2k/4k) before we go on a break before coming back for the last level of the night. Ive got around 180k (2nd in chips on our table) Maniac raises 9200 (as normal) it gets flatted by ABC player in mid position. (Im a bit wary because everybody is being cautious about playing an hand with the maniac) it gets to me in the BB and Im holding AKs. I just call. reason for this is; 1; I want to keep the size of the pot small as possible. 2; Wary of the mid pos ABC player. 3; OOP. 4; No matter what raise I put in maniac is calling and has position on me. Anyway, flop runs out K 9 2 rainbow. I check, maniac leads out for about 12k ABC player passes (he was my only concern) I now re-raise to 35k and Maniac goes all in. (seen this move several times) My tournament life now at risk. 380k potential pot if I call. Chip average at time was 140k. Ive now fallen below this if I pass. Blinds 2.5k/5k when we return leaving me with 27bigs, again if I pass. Taking all this into account and how Ive seen the maniac playing. . . . . . I CALL. Maniac tables KJo. . . . . I start praying to the poker gods. Turn & River. . . . . . JACK, JACK. . . . . . . Damn u poker gods!!!!!! I will be astonished if he makes the final table with his playing style but if he runs like he was doing then he will just rollercoaster it. Title: Re: DTD £150 this weekend: £50,000 GTD Post by: TightEnd on August 20, 2012, 10:23:17 AM Tim Chung won this outright for £15,372 beating Robin Watkins and Ian Roberts
Roberts entered the final as the only remaining CPP Golden Chip winner. He came close, but finished 3rd Chung entered the final with 2.7m of the 7m in play and really was at no risk throughout. The class of the final table field and he did not put a foot wrong Two key hands shaped the result With seven left and three stacks at 10-15x bb two of the bigger stacks clashed Each playing around 1m Harish Sahnan found Kings in the small blind, to a button raise from Jeremy Cook with Aces. All in pre-flop, Sahnan spiked a King on the turn. The short-stacks laddered, and all extremely happy to do so, and Sahnan moved to second in chips Whilst I waited back to see the short-stacks shove, Sahnan then found Queens in the cut off He limped, no doubt hoping to catch a short-stack However Chung found Kings in the blinds. He 3-bet, and Sahnan limp shoved Ouch. Kings held, Chung was up to 5m of the 7m and really never looked back Watkins made a remarkable recovery three handed, first doubling through Roberts then finding Kings in the big against sixes on the button Beginning Heads Up 2-1 in down chips down there was some minor skirmishing but Chung prevailed when both hiut a King on the turn, Chung K-8 v K-5. Watkins check shoved the river, was called and finished second Title: Re: DTD £150 this weekend: £50,000 GTD Post by: George2Loose on August 20, 2012, 02:05:30 PM Chung is frankie's horse right?
