Just seen a competition in a magazine with the following question:

When are the only two times that you should slow play pocket aces?

Any ideas?

1) Never

2) Never

next question?  :D

What a daft question, firstly there's more than two situations where it could be argued that slow playing aces is a good play.

I'm with Matt though, as a tournament player slow playing aces is a never never for me. When it raises EV it also raises variance, this is not a good trade off in tournaments.

Perhaps the answers they're looking for are,

1. When you're UTG or in early position and you think someone else will raise, you call hoping to re-raise. Anytime you have a read on someone acting after you that they intend to raise thus allowing you to re-raise.

2. When there has been a large bet to you and you think that your opponent will put in another large bet on any flop.

3. When you are short stacked in a tournament and need to double-up. Allowing opponents a chance to flop something.

4. When heads up against a hyper-aggresive opponent.

5. When you have a good read on your opponent and are confident you can lay your hand down when he flops something better than a pair.

5. When you are deep stacked and keen to lose all your money.

when you find them in the SB and it is folded to you

complete the BB and pray he finds a hand

if not check on the flop and pray he has caught some of it


i suppose this might be what they are thinking of

Thanks for advice so far. If it helps the question is set by devilfish, not that I can imagine him slow playing aces?
