Title: Car insurance Post by: Gizsumcash on August 21, 2012, 02:12:20 PM My car insurance runs out in 2 months. Im 21 and it is my first year of driving so i will have 1 years no claims (lol) I have a black renault clio 04 plate. Im currently with LV and for my first year it cost me 1800 which is ridic. Any recommendations for another insurance firm for my second year? Hastings quoted me 791 but with 750 excess.

Simples... Title: Re: Car insurance Post by: Gizsumcash on August 21, 2012, 02:28:19 PM There not 100% accurate, i was wondering if anyone had any good prices with smaller companies that arent necessarily on the price comparison websites. Although the free toy sounds good.
Title: Re: Car insurance Post by: RED-DOG on August 21, 2012, 02:37:05 PM I get a good deal from the Co op, but I'm considerably older than you.
I'd settle for being 21 and paying the £750 excess. Title: Re: Car insurance Post by: Ironside on August 21, 2012, 02:47:16 PM i would see if i could get a £1500 excess and a cheaper premium and then drive carefully you only pay the excess if the accident was your fault
also worth thinking of just taking a 3rd party insurance rather than one with fire and theft cars dont go on fire as often now adays and not sure how much your car is worth but once you take away the excess is it really worth it that is assuming your not getting full comp insurance for that sort of money Title: Re: Car insurance Post by: Gizsumcash on August 21, 2012, 03:02:43 PM My car was 2500 when i brought it last year roughly worth around 1695 now according to some websites. I definatley overpaid for my car but was desperate as i wanted a car as soon as i passed my test. I could raise the excess to 1000. I am a sensible driver and not the usual boy racer type. Probably just have to keep paying over the top prices untill i get a couple more years no claims. Cheers guys.
Title: Re: Car insurance Post by: MLHMLH on August 21, 2012, 03:31:49 PM Try Co-op Young Driver Policy. They install a box in the car that monitors the quality of your driving (e.g. speed, cornering, braking/acceleration, time of day you drive) and if you get good scores you get a refund every quarter of your premium.

Putting Mum as main driver used to be the way to go in my youth, but these days (40years on) it's an invitation to the insurer to just not pay out.
