Title: Granny denied... Post by: david3103 on August 23, 2012, 09:25:45 PM http://www.metro.co.uk/olympics/909461-bookies-refuse-to-pay-out-grannys-winnings-on-grandsons-bronze-medal
Seems Betfred don't fancy paying out. Granny bet on grandson winning an Olympic medal in gymnastics, he was a member of the team who won a bronze and they refused to pay. Cost of paying out, £1000. Cost of negating the bad publicity??? Title: Re: Granny denied... Post by: typhoon13 on August 23, 2012, 09:38:10 PM Disgusting Title: Re: Granny denied... Post by: George2Loose on August 23, 2012, 09:40:58 PM No one will care tho will they?
Title: Re: Granny denied... Post by: kinboshi on August 23, 2012, 09:48:14 PM They should pay her and on top of it pay for her tickets to Rio. Turn the publicity round.
Title: Re: Granny denied... Post by: rfgqqabc on August 23, 2012, 09:50:04 PM a) depends on t&cs
b) they've pulled this shit a million times in much more clear cut circumstances, pisses me off some gran can get press in an ambiguous case, when I've seen/had standout clear cut bets myself and had to fight for payment. IBAS are shit, but she'll get paid now its in the paper, and her local manager will get the sack. Title: Re: Granny denied... Post by: action man on August 23, 2012, 09:55:22 PM its not ambiguous if "to win a medal at the olympics" is on the slip and she was quoted 200/1
Title: Re: Granny denied... Post by: horseplayer on August 23, 2012, 09:58:36 PM good old slaphead

Title: Re: Granny denied... Post by: TheChipPrince on August 23, 2012, 10:21:43 PM They announced this afternoon they were paying her.

Title: Re: Granny denied... Post by: rfgqqabc on August 23, 2012, 11:37:26 PM its not ambiguous if "to win a medal at the olympics" is on the slip and she was quoted 200/1 Failed to get paid out on a match bet between Bellamy and someone else last year. That was premier league match bet, goalscorer written on the slip. Funny how i had to get IBAS to sort it out. Its not as simple as slip = bet. There are pages of t&cs for a reason. Title: Re: Granny denied... Post by: The Camel on August 24, 2012, 05:43:00 PM A mate of mine walked into a betfred shop.
Already in there was a geezer he knew. They chatted for a while, and then my mate had a couple of bets. He won about £500 and came to collect his bets the next day. He was given his stake back and told the beets were void because the guy he spoke to was banned from every betfred shop and "you might have been putting those bets on for him" They are the lowest of the low. Title: Re: Granny denied... Post by: redarmi on August 24, 2012, 06:28:14 PM Yep. I was once knocked back for a £1e/w lucky 15 by them. It was a bit dirty but are you really going to knock back a £30 bet?

Im sure if all the bets lost they'd have refunded his stakes too,,,sound a right bunch of shysters Title: Re: Granny denied... Post by: Tal on August 26, 2012, 11:09:58 PM Not certain, because the law might have changed in the last 8 years, but I learned in my law degree that, if you find out after placing a bet that a gambling contract is void and that, therefore, the betting shop is only ever obliged to refund your stake, you can claim your stake back if you lose.
Stick a million on Celtic and if they lose get your money back anyway. Oddly, the legal case was something unconnected to betting shops: hedge funds and Lloyd's names. |
