Title: New $50k HORSE Event Added To WSOP
Post by: Div on January 15, 2006, 09:28:32 PM
The first ever $50,000 dollar event has been added to the WSOP - a HORSE event.

I wonder if this might eventually be seen as producing the 'true' champion, rather the current $10,000 Hold Em event.

What do fellow Blondeites think about this?

I know Negreanu has been championing this for a long time

and i personally feel to be crowned a true world champion of poker then other forms of the game need to be played out in the main event (but im sure ESPN would have a few things to say about it).

I read this elsewhere. I also heard that among the top players it may be recognised as the "real" main event.

Anyone think that this might be because due to the numbers these days a recognised pro WONT win the main event very often? They also know a $50,000 buy in event wont have the same field and will have less internet qualifiers and therefore it's back in the hands of the pros....

Sour grapes???

Even in the early 1970s the WSOP main event buy in was $5,000, so with inflation the $50,000 buy-in probably isn't so unrealistic in relative terms.

I also think it's an interesting idea to have something other than a pure Hold Em event deciding who is the best poker player.

I do agree with The Baron that there's probably other motivations too. Ego being one.
