Title: DTD £500+60 Staking Thread - Ed Gascoigne Post by: edgascoigne on August 28, 2012, 03:01:47 PM Hi,
For those not blessed with Miss Marple-esque powers of deduction and hence unable to decipher my screen name I am Ed Gascoigne - a Sheffield Wednesday supporting, loud trouser-wearing, sports betting analyst. I am posting here in an attempt to sell 50% of my action for the upcoming £560 at DTD at 1.0 This is my first time posting for staking, though I have taken pieces of a few others in the past. I've been a member of Blonde for some time participating mostly in Far from being a full-time player I am rather an enthusiastic amateur, and really do love playing poker. I don't play anywhere near as often as I would like owing to other commitments (job, girlfriend, punting bad each-ways, gardening at the cottage) but I read a large amount of content on the PHA board here, trawl 2+2 and have read a decent amount of theory etc. I'm probably up at DTD about 5 times a year, and probably play in London (£1-£2 or £1-£3) a further dozen times a year. I recently took a poker trip/holiday to Deauville where, miraculously, I took down a 300Eur mixed-max event for 5050Eur. Then Rob came over at 4:20am and said he was buying someone in, so everyone else still in has a seat :D When it went to 21, me and Tim Chung (the two shorties) were keen for a saver deal to be done and everyone throw in £25 to buy a seat for the bubbler. Everyone agreed (as it was getting ridiculously late), but then two said no, and then a third, so we played on. Anyway, will be playing the Day 1 today as I can't play tomorrow! So run good and see you on Sunday ;goodluck; Title: Re: DTD £500+60 Staking Thread - Ed Gascoigne Post by: edgascoigne on August 31, 2012, 10:20:56 AM ;goodluck; I just need to qualify now. After an early mishap I'd chipped back up to 57k. Then at 250/500al a50 mid position raises to 1250 from 40k, I 3bet BB with Kings to 3.3k, he makes it 8k, I jam. He has dem aces. 17k now. At 1k/2k a300 we open utg to 4.4k with AKs, get 3bet by the next seat along who is steamed after losing a healthy pot where QQ<AJ aip. We jam the rest and get called by KK. Case king on the flop and it's all she wrote. Thanks for the staking guys and sorry for the lack of a day 2 sweat. Title: Re: DTD £500+60 Staking Thread - Ed Gascoigne Post by: edgascoigne on September 03, 2012, 09:15:11 AM As per earlier posts the dream ended relatively late on day 1, though in case investors/others are interested thought I would post up a report of key hands/amusing moments etc.
Lunch/Theory/The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men Arrived up from London in good time and nipped out for a bit of Dim-Sum with Father Gascoigne at a newly re-opened place on the Derby Road. We shot the breeze and calmed the excitement with green tea and talk of being disciplined, only opening monster hands in the early levels, keeping the inner spewtard caged. All good so far. Arrived at DTD and sat in the bar just long enough to see Marius walk past, a Lituanian (?) ex-dealer at the Vic who now plays for a living, and a chap off whom I am currently 0/57 in pots won. He's a properly hard barsteward. I draw table 58/2, take my seat, and of the 455 players registered am truly delighted to see Marius arrive in 58/3. Marvelous. 453/1 pokes happen all the time to be fair. The actual poker First hand of true note unfortunately didn't go to plan. Adam Connell (? - ex-photographer at DTD) had been really quite active and opened UTG at 100/200. I 3bet the Qh 9h in cut-off and he peels. Kh 5h 5s Obv pretty reasonable for my hand. He check calls. Kh 5h 5s Ts He checks again, see no reason to slow down really, I bet & he calls. River bricks off and he now leads 5k, which was I believe about half pot. I had been thinking if the river bricks and he checks this was basically the size I would fire as a bluff. Also figured he could be betting missed draws, though out of game time this is unlikely for any number of reasons. Final thought is that if I raise the end he should have a tough time calling with most things - my line looks pretty damn strong. I raise. He tanks, asks if I have aces etc. etc. before calling off with AK. After the pre-match teamtalk and all those delicious dumplings we are down to 27k. Fightback/Splashdown 1 Can't remember the sequence of hands for the life of me but properly get my head down, play some decent poker imo, making good decisions coupled with a couple of hands I'm sure and we are back to 57k @ 250/500 a50. Relatively young, but quiiite tight chap opens to 2.5x from MP on my BB. Recent history has seen me squeeze the BTN (in what I thought was a v good spot) and barrel, barrel, call for a split on something like QJ8T9, regrettably having to show the mighty 74o but mercifully, and largely unfairly, getting my money back. Folds to me in the BB where I find Ks Kc wiiiiiiiii. I 3bet to 3.3k and he is playing 40.3k effective. He 4balls to c8k, I jam the rest repping AK and he snaps with dem Aces. An uninteresting runout later and we are down to 17k and on break. Marvelous. The most bonkers 4/5 hands Hand 1 So we're returning to 17k @ 300/600 a75. Folds to me in the cut off first hand back and the BB is not in his chair. I open Ad Jd Brazilian/German guy in the SB flats. 8d 8s 4h He checks and I sense something, I check. 8d 8s 4h Aspades He checks and I check. I know people will think this is terribad but there was something rotten in the state of Denmark. River bricks off and he bets basically full pot, 5k. Don't see how I can pass given how under-repped my hand is.....but I basically announce there is something funny going on here as I call off to see 87o. Down to 10.5k. Hand 2 - Literally the next hand. Folds to us in the cutoff and we open Ks Kc from 16bigs. Marius peels, blinds fold Ad 2d 8h I check jam over Marius' bet, he calls 8d 7d, we fade and are back to c22k. Almost certainly bad post, was arguably, and regrettably, tilting a little when the Ace flopped and just thought "I'll stick it in his eye anyway". Hand 3 - Again, literally the v next hand Pretty sure this one is bad. Folds to me in MP, I open 4c 4d. Adam Connell 3bets the BB to 4k over a 1.4k open. He has 3bet from the blinds an unhealthy amount. I jam over the top. He tank calls with Qc Qh I get there on the turn, back up to 45k. Hand 4 - there's been a few hands pass til now Shortie jams about 12bigs from the hijack, I call 7d 7h from the SB, BB folds. We are up against 88 but.....what's that? A 7s in the window?? We are up to c55k. Phew. Deep breaths readers, if any of you are at a sufficiently loose end to still be here! Can't remember what happens for a while now but not too long after the table breaks and I draw 48/8. What's that coming over the hill in 48/6? Is it Father Gascoigne? Is it Father Gascoigne? It is!!! Well hello father. Ian looks marginally less amused than the rest of the table. Pwning the Father Been at the table for about an orbit and pretty quiet. On my BB the cut off (young Sarf London kid who is (a) hilarious and (b) tilts my dad rather cos he doesn't understand Cockney innit) opens from about 40bigs @ 400/800 a100. My dad peels the BTN, SB calls and I check the BB with Aspades 3s after dwelling a squeeze but deciding I'll just pwn my dad postflop (love you dad). 8c 2s 3h We check round to my dad, who bets 6.5k into a pot of about 8k. SB folds. I decide the Cut-off would deffo lead his value hands on the flop, apart from perhaps a set, but if he has one Gold bless him. The most key point here however is my knowledge of my dad's play, in a few disparate parts. (i) He would 3bet a premium pre to stick it in the cockney's eye. (ii) He would bet a set smaller on the flop. (iii) He once read an article on taking possession of orphan flops. (iv) He's got either 5c 5d or 6d 6h basically. I raise to 14k. Cockney folds, my dad's shoulders visibly slump like the first time I nutmegged him in the garden or aced him at tennis and I know the read was on the money. After a bit of chuntering about £xk per year on school fees and now all I get is this sh1t he passes, and morale is high. Part 2 to follow if anyone is actually reading this and is bothered let me know!! Title: Re: DTD £500+60 Staking Thread - Ed Gascoigne Post by: tikay on September 03, 2012, 09:34:30 AM Reading........ Title: Re: DTD £500+60 Staking Thread - Ed Gascoigne Post by: edgascoigne on September 03, 2012, 10:02:23 AM Table 48 Cont.
We have a nice draw on this table and are happy to open a lot when folded to us. We chip up nicely without any overly interesting hands until this comes up - pretty sure a lack of experience costs us here. Folds to me in the cut off and I open 4c 4d to 2.1x from about 60bigs. BB, who has been bleeding at a rate of knots jams 17bb. We......? Should fold, I'm almost sure now, but I thought it was close and clicked the call button. Presumably about 88+ AQ+ is actually the line? He now announces he is actually blind. Cool. Oh, a pair of queens. No miracle this time and we chip down. Resume chipping up in raise/cbet type spots until opening 3h 3s in MP. Next seat along peels. 3d 8c 4h or some similarly beautiful flop. I check/call. Turn is a brick. I crai and he snaps with 87. Puts us up to the dizzing heights of 85k. We chip up to 95k and then the table breaks, sad times. Table 25/1 New table seems ok though I'm certainly not as comfortable as on the previous one and don't know many of the faces. Billy (used to be staked by Frankie?) is in seat 6. The chap who arrives in seat 3 has the world after flopping a set of 10s when on table Belton previously and having a chap gift him about 80bb with an open shove on a K-10-x flop. No traction but no dramas when I play a hand v poorly. Folds to the BTN who had loads on my arrival but did loads to David Williams (still in and chipped up) where JJ<AA and he, in my opinion, rather overplayed his hand. He limps, SB completes and I check 69o. Flop comes Qd 7d 5h SB checks. I lead about 1/3rd pot figuring this should take it down often. I bet 2.2k using a 5k and two 100 chips. BTN raises to 5.2k, SB folds and I call with my gutshot ;tk; Qd 7d 5h 4c Well I'm now up and down, but given he has the initiative I check to him. He checks back - I now put him on air basically. He did seem to have a bit of gamble and there was the possibility he was just trying to get them back after losing JJ < AA. Qd 7d 5h 4c 8d So I've hit it, but the flush draw has completed. Given read he has naff all (would expect him to continue with flush draw on the turn) I plan to check call. He obliges with a 12k bet, I call, and he rolls over 2d 3d. Back down to about 70k. Card dead and chip down a bit until we are at about 55k with blinds 1k/2k a200 Bust Out Hand Chap on my direct left has shown up with Qs 8s (and getting there) after calling a bet oop on Ac Jc 9s (or similar) an orbit or so back and is steamed after opening Qs Qh in MP, having a 15-20bb stack jam Ahrt Jh over him on the BTN and getting there. He is playing about 70k. I find Aspades Ks UTG and open to 4.4k. He 3bets to 10k from the next seat along. Folds to me and I do contemplate the impossible.... before remembering I'm young, wearing a hood, haven't been able to show down a value hand on this table and he is steaming.....and sticking it in his eye. He calls with Kh Kc and I do think I might get there....until the case king in the window and it's game, set and match. Fin Thank you to all stakers for your confidence and backing. Some days we're the pigeon and others we're the statue, and regrettably we ran into a statue day on Saturday. Cheers, Ed Title: Re: DTD £500+60 Staking Thread - Ed Gascoigne Post by: Eso Kral on September 03, 2012, 10:37:16 AM Nice TR Ed and good to meet you as well over the weekend!!
