Title: Birmingham - Enough live poker action ? Post by: ShippingIT on September 09, 2012, 08:40:58 PM Hello everybody,
i got this forum address by a friend in UK :). Anyway im currently living in Las Vegas playing 2/5+ for a living but i have to move soon. And im interested that is there any 2/5£ regular action in Birmingham ? And is it possible to play for a living there i have no experience with that city but my wife is probably gonna work there soon so if poker is OK i will be there :). Imo London is too expensive city for that or what ? Lots of action there but the city seems too expensive etc. Thank you very much, any tip about Birmingham is a huge help for us. Good luck Title: Re: Birmingham - Enough live poker action ? Post by: Tal on September 09, 2012, 08:49:23 PM Plenty of cash games at Broadway Casino. 1/2 and 2/5 NLH and PLO. Tend to be pretty shallow and crazy. Round of each game 2/5 with straddles looks pretty wild.
Definitely been a shift over the last 6-12 months at that casino towards cash games, where it used to get 80+ runner fields five nights a week. At weekends now, it gets lots of cash games going, with a £5 hourly session for 1/2 and I can't remember the session for 2/5. Very loose games tho, on the whole, so money can be made for those with skill and deep pockets. I have between zero and some of these, which is why I am generally a spectator of these games these days. Title: Re: Birmingham - Enough live poker action ? Also it's not 24/7 Title: Re: Birmingham - Enough live poker action ? Post by: ackackackack on September 10, 2012, 12:05:36 AM If you are used to Las Vegas cardrooms you will find the UK games far less convenient. My advice would be to settle into the Birmingham scene, ask around and be prepared to drive maybe an hour or two to a good game. The VIC in London is worth a visit but you probably could not commute there from B'ham. I would also recommend a visit to Dusk Till Dawn and following the cash games around the Tournament circuit UKIPT, GUKPT, Genting etc. when they are a reasonable drive, there is always plenty of money floating around during Festival Weeks. It is probably worth reading the threads on
A World of Poker also, to get a feel for how the games are going. You are just going to have to get most of the information by word of mouth. So I hope you are a friendly, likeable and sociable player! Title: Re: Birmingham - Enough live poker action ? Anyone ever played any tournaments at the Gala Casino near New Street? I'm thinking of heading there tonight as I am sick of the Broadway Casino. They have a £30 deep stack listed tonight, but I have a feeling I will turn up and there will be about 6 runners. Title: Re: Birmingham - Enough live poker action ? Title: Re: Birmingham - Enough live poker action ? Post by: ArtHound on July 27, 2013, 04:35:10 PM Ah cool. That surprises me a bit, I've been to the Gala a couple of times and it's been completely dead, I didn't even realize they had a poker room.

Fridays will be better at Broadway but Saturdays are pretty even. Cash games will be more regular and voluminous at Broadway tho. Title: Re: Birmingham - Enough live poker action ? Good luck If you are used to playing $2-5 in Vegas you will probably be very didsappointed by the cash game action in the UK certainly outside of London. It is pretty rare to find a game at all during the day and even in the evenings there arent huge amounts of games. It is a couple of years since i lived in Solihull but then you would often be waiting until 10pm at night to find a decent cash game and even then only a couple of tables. Sounds from Tals post that has changed a bit but you are not going to walk in and find 10 tables to choose from at midday like you can in the States.
