Bit of in tourney PHA this. I'm playing the £50 +2r at DTD. I've got about 40k. Julian Thew is on my left. Blind on blind- I've got A7o in the small blind. 300/600/50. Folded to me, I raise to 1500. Thew reraises to 4000 out of 22k-ish in the big. a) What should I do? b) How do I think about what I should do?

Don't worry, I've played the hand now, it's not that urgent :-)

Just fold now I feel.

Thew is decent apparently and playing this post is going to be horrendous.

I'd maybe even be tempted to open fold v Julian as he'll just put you in a coffin so often on all sorts of textures post flop.

Out of position v a competent madman has the makings of a fairly unpleasant scenario.

Wouldnt be in my 4bet jam range as a bluff but wouldnt open fold either

Fold and show him the ace with a bit of panache, then shake your head at him in disgust whilst he mucks.

if he shows you a bluff, slowly shake your fist at him saying 'damn aggro kids'

Easy shove now for me as he'll no doubt hit the flop if you give him the opportunity. ;)

My only experience playing with him ended with him 6bet jamming 120bb with QTo from the hijack vs muckthenuts in the small blind with pretty much no history in the 500 at DTD. This makes me less inclined to fold but I still probably do

I actually think he has a lot more bluffs than value hands on this spot and would probably not adjust to balancing to 3b to induce with 88/99/aj etc this is fine of course too and Julian is a boss. There's not a huge deal we can do though lol cbet 4b fold with stacks and a little deep to jan here especially as we can show a huge profit from playin against te other 7 fishcakes. If you had no history you could lol call top 3, but presume he recognises Skippy. Like the fishcake usage.

Trippy do you have any history? if none with Thew i would fold, but if you have had a couple of relevant hands it could be a shove :)

If anything I think jamming might be better without history vs him. I'm sure he's capable of adjusting and 3bet/calling a lot more hands with some history that without any history he may just flat and without history I imagine he's more polarised and bluff heavy

Actually he did say afterwards that I was always trying to nick his blind.

He was playing exceedingly tight though (although maybe he was loosening up as the blinds increase?)- I don't think I saw him ever get to showdown with less than a top 10% hand.

From the limited amount Iv played with Julian, he isnt that aggro 100% of the time. When he is though hes a headcase lol.

Easy fold.  Not cos Julian is some kind of super nit but in this tournie so many softer spots at the table it's just not worth it.

Would also imagine he is gonna be tighter than usual tho if it was one of the Sky tournie side events with tonnes of Sky players around.  Don't think he will spew off quite so often in a situation like this.

Calling wasn't on the menu for me, it was jam or fold.

Results, for what it's worth was I shipped it, he called with A6o and I held and won the tournament.

If I give him say 16k instead, any different answers?

Oh I thought he had you covered, so its like 35bbs effective? Can't blame you for jamming, but I'd fold vs Julian most of the time depending on how he'd been playing.

EDIT: 2p worth, obv raising bvb, when he 3bets it's very meh, I'm probably airing towards a fold espec vs julian. but I'm a nit/fish so.  ;flushy;
