Title: The blonde forum and Spamming.
Post by: tikay on June 19, 2005, 12:48:47 AM
Boils have to be burst before they get better, so I think I need to burst this little pimple before it becomes a boil.

blonde Forum's policy on spamming is this.

1). Common sense.

2). All things in moderation.

So how does that work in practice?

We don't mind blondeites spamming now and then. Honestly, we don't. Remember, common sense, & all thing in moderation. So the odd spam telling us that so & so has odds up for the WSOP, or Golf betting, or odds for a comp that contains a bevy of blondeites is hunky dory by us.

The blonde Forum has earned a reputation as a fun place to be. No hassle, plenty of laughs, & we aint in your face with blonde offers day and night. And it's become a fun place, because there are a great bunch of lads on blonde, & very few threads fail to contain a bit of fun somewhere along the line.

Some peeps have mentioned that the (name with-held) Forum aint much fun these days, & we wanna avoid the same mistakes. Name with-held 'cos Dave & I agreed up front that we dont do knocking copy.

We HAVE been spamming, mercilessly, the Crypto Blonde Tourney. But the wise and observant amongst you may have noticed that we have never suggested you sign up for any site via blonde in respect of the Blonde Tourney. Not even a tinsy winsy, teeny weeny, ickle wickle, itsy bitsy bit. Not once, not then, not now, not know how, not never. Why not? Because it's intended to be a fun tourney, bragging rights, & a good laugh. We need a bit of money to ensure folks play properly, so we asked Crypto to give us a few bob, & they obliged. Largely, because they saw what a good time we all had last Sunday evening. Thank you Crypto. And in fact blonde threw in 100 quid of our own money, as a Bounty on me. So it's costing us 100 quid in fact. Plus a bit of work by us, some help from Crypto and an intermediary, and a whole lot of work by Ironside, who had a rough ride despite sticking precisely and exactly to the agreed timetable for the poll. It's NOT a commercial thing, it's a fun thing, & it would be wrong to try and take your money on one hand, while trying to sell the tourney as a "blonde family" type fun thing.

A fair bit of heat was generated last week in discussing our tourney, and it started to develop into a spam-fest, but it was all well intended. Every friend I had a week ago I still have. Nobody's fallen out. The crypto Blonde Tourney will take place on Thursday, & lets hope we have a bit of a laugh, & someone takes home a few bob. Ruru has kindly agreed to move the Betfair Tourney back a day, to avoid a clash, & I will support that too.

So, let's just reiterate. Spamming is OK if you guys remember the rules, rules which we put in place on your behalf, so as to ensure our Forum stays clean.

Common sense. All things in moderation.

Everything is cool. Let's keep it that way.

Next case.

Or as Monty Python would say......

Spam! Spam! Spam! Spam!
Lovely Spaaam! Wonderful Spaaam!
Lovely Spaaam! Wonderful Spam.
Spa-a-a-a-a-a-a-am.
Spa-a-a-a-a-a-a-am.
Spa-a-a-a-a-a-a-am.
Spa-a-a-a-a-a-a-am.

Lovely Spaaam! (Lovely Spam!)
Lovely Spaaam! (Lovely Spam!)
Lovely Spaaam!

Spaaam, Spaaam, Spaaam, Spaaaaaam!

Sorry, I can resist anything except temptation, sorry, sorry

I, for one, am grateful for your thickening skin. Being a sensitve sort I couldn't take the ribbing myself and think you're a good sport. In an effort not to take the heat off you I will not post a pic yet or I'll be in for some sledging.

Yes, it was my first post.

I reside in Blackpool but I only play online and for small stakes.

One thing I will say Tikay is that you are the only person that I have never met that I consider a friend.

I think your great on that 425, keep up the good work.

Gurnfish, what a lovely thing to say, thank you. We try to make blonde different, fun, and a force for good in poker. Sounds a bit grand, but with you guys helping, we are going the right way.

I hope when we are next up in Blackpool we can hook up, & I'll introduce you to a few of the faces from blonde.

I know El Blondie wll give it the yukky wukky bit, but I really appeciate your comments, I am touched.

The truth about SPAM

Some of us, myself included have been slicing the spam a bit too thick of late

We need to remember what spam is, a poor substitute for the real thing

Over doing it is like taking your brief case to the pub and trying to sell your mates insurance. Im not pointing the finger at anyone, Its just that tikays post made me realise that its easy to jump on to this particular band waggon, but its hard to jump off as it gathers momentum

We all have to earn a crust, but by the same token, we all need somewhere to come and relax

For those of you who are partial to the odd bit of spam, I hope you find the following interesting

By World War II, Hormel had sold twenty thousand tons of Spam. Then, during the wartime meat rationing, Spam got popular...
If all the cans of Spam ever eaten were put end-to-end, they would circle the globe at least ten times.
In the U.S. alone, 3.8 cans of Spam "are consumed every second"(assuming SPAM is eaten 24 hours a day, 365.25 days a year).
Senator Robert Byrd of West Viginia eats a sandwich of SPAM and mayonnaise on white bread three times a week.
Residents of Hawai'i eat an average of four cans of SPAM per person per year, more than in any other place on Earth (Elsewhere in the Universe, who knows?).
By 1959, a billion cans of SPAM had been sold. The two billion mark was hit in 1970, followed by three billion in 1980, four billion in 1986, and five billion in 1993. That's a lot of SPAM!
In Korea, SPAM is sold in stylish presentation gift boxes of nine cans each. SPAM stolen from army PXs can be found on the Korean black market. And there are Korean imitations called Lo-Spam, Dak, Plumrose, and Tulip, to ensure that no one need go without.
Nikita Krushchev once credited SPAM with the survival of the WWII Russian army. ''Without SPAM, we wouldn't have been able to feed our army,'' he said.
SPAM is sold in over 99% of U.S. grocery stores.
The SPAM luncheon meat trademark is registered in 93 countries.
Over 60 million people in the U.S. eat SPAM.
SPAM is made in two U.S. locations - Austin, Minnesota, and Fremont, Nebraska - and seven other countries: England, Australia, Denmark, Phillipines, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea.
In 1989, the U.S. armed forces bought 3.3 million pounds of SPAM.
Over 141 million cans of SPAM are sold worldwide each year.

The thing i find interesting is how much it is!
It's actually on a par now with prime ham (the tinned stuff).

"like taking your briefcase to the pub and selling insurance to your mates". Good analogy Rd-Dog.

But the file is closed now, spam in moderation will continue I hope, especially from our friends, ideally in Red-Dog style blather speak rather than corporate speak.

Lets not discuss it any more.
