Title: Bwin.Party sell ongame network.
Post by: Da Bookie on October 05, 2012, 04:48:48 PM
It is reported that Bwin.Party have sold the ongame network to AMAYA gaming for 15 million euro with a possible further 10 million depending on US regulation. Considering Bwin paid 473 million euro for it in 2005 probably not the best deal ever. However as Bwin players ( the majority I believe? ) will move to party and rumours about Betfair moving or going solo is this the end of ongame or a chance for rebirth?
As the on line poker market polarizes even more is there any chance at all that we will see any competition develop maybe a stronger Party Poker site may take up the challenge.

The only chance these rooms have is if they ALL come together and form a complete network. So you would have Stars, Full Tilt and Poker room X consisting of Ongame/Ipoker/Cake etc

But how does that work when stars = full tilt.

Isn't there a monopoly issue here somewhere?

The jurisdictions of the companies are worldwide, and generally domicilied offshore (for the poker industry as a whole) where Monopolies considerations aren't a factor

If they were all domiciled in one country, then that market share would undoubtedly be seen as anti-competitive

Betfair is hugely dominant and is clearly abusing its dominance (commission much higher than main rival) and nothing was done when it was headquartered and regulated in the uk, so I doubt anything would happen if stars was in the same position.
