Considering what Disney has done with Marvel this is fantastic news for any Star Wars fan.

Any non-Star Wars fan wasn't brought up properly.

I like the idea, pretty much every scifi/action filmmaker grew up on Star Wars so I think there will be plenty of guys who can do the franchise justice. Plus we might finally get Mark Hamil back in work.

Would be nice for the kids to see a decent Star Wars film.

Yes, almost certainly. But the thing is, at least when I make er indoors watch it, I am talking over the whole thing anyway telling her why she should also be excited about it.

The bit that gets me is still the opening scene of New Hope where we see the huge Star Destroyer passing through the shot for what seems like forever.

I was probably somewhere between 5 and 7 when I saw that for the first time on TV and I can remember it like it was yesterday. As a kid it was totally awe inspiring.

As I was telling my Missus and she wasn't listening to me the other day when New Hope was on TV, they had a model the size of a car for the Star Destroyer and a cameraman on a mechanics trolley was pulled underneath it, then they played it backwards.

I'm so lucky she married me before Star Wars was put back on ITV this month.

I'd guess the original actors, on the assumption they are playing them as oldies with a new bunch of heroes.

If they do start into the EU then the Rogue & Wraith Squadrons series are made for a series of films. (Apart from the ridiculous diversion to the vaguely Elizabethan planet with blaster swords).

I'm a massive Star Wars geek and I'm very happy with the news, provided the role for George Lucas as a 'creative consultant' is the same as when you give your kid the role of 'Navigator' on a long road trip just to keep them quiet and have them stare at something colourful while the real business is done.

The originals are going to get reissued again for sure so Disney get a cash buzz, have the original cuts souped up to HD without Greedo shooting first, Han stepping on Jabba, Vader shouting nooooo! or any of the other crap George has messed with the series.

As for Episode 7 onwards, I'd be quite happy with them being animated but with the 'almost real animation' you see in the Old Republic video game trailers.  Fan boys are going to go crazy with cannon issues with the expanded universe but Disney should put on a good movie.  As long as George is locked in a cupboard.

Disagree. They've done wonders for Marvel. Stayed out of the running of it and put big guns like Millar and Whedon who know the brand behind the creative side.

This is the optimum result IMHO.

I should add the shit Marvel films you see such as x-men, spidey, fantastic 4 etc are actually leased to Fox and Sony.

The stuff that is still "in house" with Marvel, ie Hulk, Thor, Cap, Avengers is what Disney is behind. Creative control has been left with Marvel.

Yep, £56 added to the Star Wars economy. Well the retailers.

Just the way he continually fiddles with the original trilogy.  I don't hate the guy, he created a story which a lot of people, myself included, love.  He's a great story creator but he can't direct well or write a script IMO.  He should have let other people direct and script the prequels IMO and just leave the original trilogy alone.  As much as it's his creation it's also now part of world popular culture.  It's like John Constable coming back to life, looking at The Haywain, getting his brush and deciding what it's really missing is a speedboat.

Also a lot of the altered versions have been released to absolutely rinse the fans.  Re-doing in 3D for cinema release is the latest in this line.

A lot of the Expanded Universe stuff is written better than most of the six core films and miles ahead of 'The Clone Wars' film.  Don't even start me on 'An Ewok Adventure' which is much more canon than the EU.

I totally agree with not letting Lucas anywhere near the sequel trilogy after the clusterfuck that was the prequels. I'd far prefer they got into the EU though as there were some top story lines in it.

Even allowing for what he did messing with The Trilogy, the it was the mangling of the prequels that depressed me and put Mr Lucas into my bad books. He actually put spoilers for the Trilogy in the sequels. If he'd just not tried to intertwine everyone before the came together naturally.....

Jedi fighting beside the Wookies - surely then Chewbacca would know that Han was wrong not to believe in them when he was mouthing off in Star Wars. The droids having been Anakin Skywalker's could have been explained by a memory wipe I suppose, but it was just too coincidental. There was just too much intertwining of characters who we'd already seen meet in the Trilogy.
