Title: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Girgy85 on November 08, 2012, 01:18:48 PM Hey all, heading to Vegas 5 weeks today and looking for some tips on shows, restaurants, poker comps etc...
I have a $500 a day budget. (Ive got £1.5k of English i still need to exchange if anyone has got dollars at spot?) Airport Tips about taxis to our hotel(harrahs) please. What do you ask for so they don't take the piss and roughly how much is it? (You gotta watch those taxi drivers ;) ) Hotel Its my mothers 60th whilst there so any tips on blagging an upgrade to our rooms? Shows What shows to see? So far I've been told about the Legends show which is in our hotel. Any other must See's? Grand Canyon. Worth the hit to do it via a chopper? Wheres best to book? Food Nice not too expensive restaurant's to take my mum on her birthday. Nothing fancy just a good steak place or something along those lines. Poker Wheres best to play? Decent deepstack tourneys around the $100 mark. Cheap cash games. Any other tips? Thanks in advance :) Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: millidonk on November 08, 2012, 01:25:33 PM Think you can just waltz in and out of blonde as you please? not even texted me since this bit of skirt hit the scene. gfy.
ps. Food = Planet Hollywood, Earl of Sandwhich. Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: StuartHopkin on November 08, 2012, 01:26:45 PM Airport
Jump in and say Harrah's, pretty sure you can tell them which route you want but Im not sure which your meant to ask for. There is a little shuttle bus on thats cheaper takes a dozen people though and drops them where ever they are staying. Shows Not sure what your looking for, but guessing your Mum may quite enjoy Frank Marino, can get table tickets pretty cheap Food Striphouse in PH probs not worth the money imo, think thats the only steakhouse Ive been too. Careful with the buffets as a lot arent great. Bellagio breakfast has to be done though. Poker PH was good for fun cash games, Aria nice also. Bellagio miserable. Venetian a lot more games but a bit more serious than PH etc Aria tourneys are meant to be good. Enjoy Girgles! Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Simon Galloway on November 08, 2012, 01:48:58 PM Airport
Tell them "no tunnel" or "take the surface streets" (they should go down Koval and into the back of Harrahs) If they take you on I-15, you got long-hauled, get out, get your bags, then offer the driver the choice between doing one or having a convo with the local cab authority. Shows Try and see something like Love @ Mirage (if your mum likes Beatles) Mystere @ TI or Absinthe @ Caesars. appeals to all age groups and discounted tickets are available, proper shows, don't baulk at the cost. Food Buffets/cafes are fine for most of it. The better hotels unsurprisingly have better options than the 3* ones, so it is worth the extra short walk and $3 to swerve Harrahs buffet and go to the Wynn buffet (or cafe, or Cosmo/Caesars/Bellagio) For a nicer steakhouse, check out the hotel websites, read the menus, do a virtual tour of it and pick one you think she'd like. A nice one is going to be $100pp without wine. SW, STK, Prime, StripHouse, StripSteak, Carnevino, Cut, Delmonico is enough reading to keep you busy for a while. Poker Cheap cash games are everywhere, $1/$2 is the general entry level game. For tournys you want the noon Venetian or 1pm Aria for the better structures. If that is too rich, then they do cheaper 7pm-type tournies, but obv the structure isn't as good. But hey, it's Vegas, who wants to sit nursing a 500BB stack all night in a $30 comp... Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: redsimon on November 08, 2012, 01:54:58 PM Going in 4 weeks for 12 nights.
Poker Aria $125 Tourney 1 pm and 7pm daily gets good fields and reasonable structure. Venetian 7pm tourny $200 I think, smaller fields than Aria. Orleans $125 NLHE 7pm Friday is good too, faster than Aria but plenty of value. Cash games I normally play Venetian, Aria 1/2 NLHE plenty of tables most nights so if you get a rubbish tight one you can get a table move easily. Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Woodsey on November 08, 2012, 01:57:09 PM There is 50/1 next door at bills.
Also every afternoon at bills there is a free Elvis show in the bar which your mum might like. Good way to kill an hour. It also has cheap decent breakfasts and informal food at the Victorian lounge there or whatever it's called. Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Marky147 on November 08, 2012, 02:06:31 PM I'm happy enough to take the interstate when I land and pay the extra not to be sat in the cab any longer than I have to....
Not really much you can upgrade too in Harrahs, I got an executive suite there when I had to stay one night a couple years back and that was decent, but you're not gonna get those for waving a score about at anyone. Le Reve is great, you could treat her to the VIP package for $200 and that was really good Terry Fator @ Mirage was good too I thought and you can get an idea of his show by checking youtube. The Range at Harrahs is supposed to be reasonably good without breaking the bank and it's in Harrahs too, so if Mama Girgy is pinging it in on the slots you might get it comped too ;) Venetian Bellagio and Aria have the best tourneys and all cash games in Vegas are good! Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Marky147 on November 08, 2012, 02:07:44 PM Also worth noting that centre strip is under a lot of construction on your side of the street at present, not sure how far along they'll be by the time you get out there though and it might be near complete.
Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Woodsey on November 08, 2012, 02:16:51 PM Nothing wrong with the cash games where your staying at harrah's either. Mostly full of older players which means lots of fish according to many on here ;whistle;

Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Cotter1 on November 08, 2012, 04:11:09 PM Airport
Cost about $25-$30 to Harrahs for taxi. Shuttle bus is about $8 return, and can be booked online. Takes you to the back of Harrahs and is very good. Can also get a free shuttle to the Rio from here twice per hour. Shows 'O' at Bellagio very good as is Love at Mirage. Food Grand Lux Cafe at Palazzo is top notch with a massive menu and great service. Well priced and don't need to book. Poker Venetian always good, but most places will cater for what you are looking for at various times of the day. The nearer to your hotel the better IMO. Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Marky147 on November 08, 2012, 04:14:13 PM Ballys Sunday brunch noon till 4 pm book in advance 80€ each yum yum only next door too Too much of that budget champagne Tony if you think Ballys is next door to Harrahs :D Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Marky147 on November 08, 2012, 04:16:15 PM Also anyone going to Vegas and getting a shuttle or bus anywhere is mental!!
Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Longy on November 08, 2012, 04:40:34 PM Re taxis, don't get long hauled the more tourist who are willing to suffer this bs the worse the problem gets. As Simon say no tunnel, no interstate after this if you at any point use either of these refuse to pay when you get to the hotel. Should be about 20 dollars to harrahs, also if they don't longhaul tip them well!
Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Sheriff Fatman on November 08, 2012, 04:44:38 PM Shows Try and see something like Love @ Mirage (if your mum likes Beatles) - AWESOME Mystere @ TI - AWESOME or Absinthe @ Caesars. AWESOME, provided your mum can cope with a lot of swearing and you can laugh freely sitting next to hear at sex jokes, etc appeals to all age groups and discounted tickets are available, proper shows, don't baulk at the cost. Just to confirm Simon's thoughts, but Absinthe comes with a big caveat. I'd happily take my own parents to it, but my father-in-law hates stuff with swearing in so I'd swerve it with him in the party. Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: tonytats on November 08, 2012, 04:48:18 PM Ballys Sunday brunch noon till 4 pm book in advance 80€ each yum yum only next door too Too much of that budget champagne Tony if you think Ballys is next door to Harrahs :D Yeah 3 farking bottles of it ,perrier jouet too burp slurp hic , 4 lobster tails ,rack of lamb ,crab claws ,bit of sushi ,Yukon mashed potatoes ,3/4 desserts cheese biscuits n grapes I had to go n have a ly down after Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Cotter1 on November 08, 2012, 05:15:17 PM [why is that? Well priced and don't need to book. Now don't get me wrong i love a good old drunken stumble into Grand Lux as much as the next person but let's not go crazy. It's very average food but they are open all night, the portions are big and the service is quick. We are talking about someone's 60th birthday here, i appreciate not everyone is on an Alize budget but surely we can do better than a diner? Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: titaniumbean on November 08, 2012, 05:57:44 PM ya imo GLux is I cant be bothered to go anywhere nice but want quick food, potentially at 3am.
Personal favourites La Cave - Wynn Yellowtail - Bellagio Thai - Lotus of Siam (offstrip NE on tropicana I think it is) Steak - Cut (in venetian/palazzo) For late night Stratta - Wynn (opposite poker room) GLux (V or P) - if you want glux for breakfast then the palazzo one is often quieter. cabs from airport are a piece of piss. south of strip don't hit I15, anywhere middle and up take I15. if you are going wynn etc and they come off near ceasers slap them in their face. Limos work like cabs except there are alot less people wanting them, go for the lincoln town cars which are basically just nice cabs and not as expensive as a limo. Similarly if there is a large queue for cabs and you do not wish to wait, either pay for a limo/town car or just tip the guys near the front door and they'll whistle a cab up for you so you don't have to wait. Decent deepstack tourneys around the $100 mark. Cheap cash games. Any other tips? Thanks in advance :) Airport: As said above, limo or cab. If you take the cab then make sure you say "Harrah's - and take Koval please." Don't let him strongarm you for the freeway but if he just accepts it and gets you there through the back roads, tip well. Hotel: Be confident, take a $20 note and politely ask for what you want. Bit of research needed here to find out what type of room you're aiming for. I would personally ask for a room with a view of the Strip but not of the construction. Don't know exactly how Harrahs is set out but you could always ask for a view of the Mirage volcano. Shows: We saw Penn & Teller when we were over there and would recommend it to anybody. Book the GC when you are out there. Food: IF you go and see Penn & Teller you get money off Voodoo at the Rio. Well worth a visit. Might be worth a trip to http://www.restaurant.com - you can buy vouchers dirt cheap which give say $25 off when you spend $50 or something like that. Even if you don't use them this time they never run out. Poker: Tourneys - not a chance. Aria's $120 is ok. Venetian have a $150 which is ok as well. They just don't do decent cheap deepstack tourneys. Cash - Every cardroom has cheap, low limit cash. Most games are $1/$2. Easy money to be won. For fun, crazy poker hit the IP for their Sunday night $3/$6 LIMIT Mixed Game. I guarantee you won't have heard of half the 11 variations they play. Get there by 6ish to make sure you get a seat. Be prepared to lose it though and not get the upgrade! Shows What shows to see? So far I've been told about the Legends show which is in our hotel. Any other must See's? Grand Canyon. Jersey Boys would be great if she likes/liked Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons Food Nice not too expensive restaurant's to take my mum on her birthday. Nothing fancy just a good steak place or something along those lines. Recommended places to eat: - Grand Lux Cafe in either Venetian or Pallazzo (Pallazzo tends to be quieter) - Noodle Asia (next to Venetian cardroom) - Postrio in St Mark's Square in Venetian - Charlie Palmers at the Four Seasons Hotel (south of Mandalay Bay) - they have a cut of the week deal (3 courses and bottomless wine) for $48 per person, which is an absolute bargain and it's very very good. Menu changes weekly - see http://www.charliepalmer.com/Properties/CPSteak/LasVegas/Menu/ - Le Burger Brasserie (between Ballys and Paris indoors) - Earl of Sandwich in Miracle Mile Shops! Excellent happy hours from 3pm Mon-Fri in Pallazzo shops at Table 10 and Double Helix Poker Wheres best to play? Decent deepstack tourneys around the $100 mark. Cheap cash games. You can't beat the daily 1pm & 7pm comp at the Aria for that price range - $125 buy in, 10k in chips, 30 min levels, very soft Any other tips? Thanks in advance :) Have a great time! See notes above. Where to get the best brass Where to get decent marching powder. Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: action man on November 09, 2012, 03:31:48 PM Food Grand Lux Cafe at Palazzo is top notch with a massive menu and great service. Yeh this Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Girgy85 on November 09, 2012, 03:34:52 PM Girgy you left out the 2most important questions. Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: action man on November 09, 2012, 03:41:27 PM For a 60th, I'd say alize at the palms. A 60th is a pretty big thing and you should pull out all the stops. Love it there. Also love lakeside grill at the wynn.
Shows I'd go for love, absinthe or la reve. Poker. Aria 125f at 7pm was the nightly I grinded when I. Was under it this year. Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: smashedagain on November 09, 2012, 04:05:36 PM Alize is very good but and if I had to recommend a show for your mum I would choose between "Love" or "O".
I always say seeing the Grand Canyon (and the strip) by helicopter is also worth the extra investment over the bus and especially as its your mums birthday. I would spend less on the poker and more on making it the once in a lifetime experience for your mum Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: millidonk on November 09, 2012, 04:11:42 PM Legends in concert ftw. Airport Tips about taxis to our hotel(harrahs) please. What do you ask for so they don't take the piss and roughly how much is it? (You gotta watch those taxi drivers ) Shouldnt be too paranoid about drivers; unless they dont run the meter you should be fine, its 10min to strip depending on traffic Hotel Its my mothers 60th whilst there so any tips on blagging an upgrade to our rooms? Dont thing anyones mentioned, but surely the answer is in the question? You have arrived with your Mum celebrating her 60th, put that into the conversation when booking in and it would take a hard nosed individual NOT to upgrade you. Shows What shows to see? So far I've been told about the Legends show which is in our hotel. Any other must See's? No idea Grand Canyon. Worth the hit to do it via a chopper? Wheres best to book? Only if you and your Mum want to see it. Food Nice not too expensive restaurant's to take my mum on her birthday. Nothing fancy just a good steak place or something along those lines. Cheesecake factory mentioned already, aria or mgm for buffet. Poker Wheres best to play? Decent deepstack tourneys around the $100 mark. Cheap cash games. Check the schedule, they will all cover this level. dont think there are any festivals early Jan, For torns Caesers good, for loose cash games flamingos and Ballys. Any other tips? Tip Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: LeKnave on November 10, 2012, 04:34:02 AM Lakeside grill at the Wynn is really nice and not absurdly pricey. Should do the job for her birthday!

And as for the room upgrade, I think airport check-in staff have 300 honeymoons/anniversaries/birthdays per flight. Hotel check-in staff in Vegas have 3000 rooms and it's everyone's special occasion. Asking nicely never hurts, but the cold reality is for the most part, Vegas just doesn't work that way. Money talks in Vegas more so than any other city. For the typical check-in clerk, with 'discretion' to upgrade 5 customers that day, can choose to upgrade the 5 heart-sob stories that day or the 5 people that are clearly intent on leaving $20 for the trouble. Hard nosed or not, it aint even close. Which leads on to tipping. It comes in 2 parts. First part is where the custom/culture is to tip. Such as 20% on a nice meal, $1/drink at the bar or from the server, etc. F&B is cheaper than it otherwise would be because of their style of min-paying staff, reducing the cost to the customer and allowing the customer to make up the difference on receipt of satisfactory service. The system has some opposition from some people that want the house to pay the staff better so they don't need as big a tip, without seeming to grasp that doing so would probably add the approx value of your tip to the list price, making little difference. I quite like the idea of being in control of the server's incremental pay, I find generally the service is a LOT better as a result, as staff know you have a decent % of their wages at your command. Regardless of whether you like or dislike the argument, THAT'S HOW IT IS and that's pretty much that. You can choose not to tip "hey I never tip at home" or lowball people, just don't eat anything if you go back the next day.... The 2nd part of the tipping culture is the one to absorb imo. This is out and out GREASE. (old-school grease, not the fire variety of today..) The way to approach this is to think about what difference tipping or not tipping will make to your experience. The doorman who opens the door for you, well, that doesn't make any diffference to me, so I generally wouldn't tip him. If he wasn't there, I'd happily open the door for myself. The taxi-line co-ordinator that whistles up a car for me, well if he wasn't there, the line would be more chaotic and the wait would be twice as long, so I generally tip him for reducing my wait time. Going back to old-school Vegas, my first trip was mid nineties and Mirage in it's pomp. I arrived after a bad layover on a 24 hour journey and was met by a complete vinegar tits on check-in that told me there wasn't a single room available. I hardly knew about the internet back then, never mind teh $20 trick, but I instinctively said "I've been on a 24 hour journey, I'm abs knackered, here's $50, please could you take another look in your system for me." Next thing you know, vinegar-tits sprang to life and I was walking off towards a private bank of elevators, possibly having overpaid, but getting a very early and cheap lesson on how Vegas operates. I could have chosen not to tip, but that would have resulted in me lying on top of 2 suitcases in the lobby for another hour or so. The tip made a big difference to my holiday, therefore it was in my interest to tip. Perhaps a rather selfish way of looking at it, but there you go. Likewise the next night with the old-style theatres, tickets to see Siegfried&Roy (and it was getting old even back then..) Tickets got you seats at a banquet style table of about 15 people, with 2 free drinks. On being led to our seats, the view was pretty bad, which I duly mentioned to the Maitre d'. His face said it all.... "get there quicker son!" The lightbulb went on and I pulled out $20 for me, $20 for the wife, and pressed it into his hand. "ooops, sorry sir, I have taken you to the wrong seat.. follow me please...." One more example closer to the poker world and I think you will get the idea. In a well known casino, I wanted to get a buffet comp (the $15 value is something, but avoiding the hour wait, which the comp confers upon you, was worth a lot more) I approached the shift manager. About 4 steps away, someone else cuts in in front of me.. "hey you got buffet comps there man" "sorry no, ran out" The other customer slunk away and teh manager turned to me, "yes?" I realised this wasn't going to be a positive conversation as was, so I waved a $5 chip and said "I was hoping to pick up a buffet comp please" "certainly, here ya go!" Now some people might say "hey that's dispicable!" Well to those, I would say, I salute your principles, but I am still going to wave to you at the back of the Q while I walk in the VIP entrance. Ok OK I think you get the idea. Every time you find yourself in a discretionary situation, ask your self if a $20 tip would make a $100 difference to your day. If it would, strongly consider doing it. If it wouldn't... don't bother. Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: millidonk on November 10, 2012, 10:08:00 AM Love tipping the taxi rank guy. It's the only time I ever really get to do the discrete palm and shake tip. Always makes feel like an abs boss or as if I am doing an open air drug deal. Taxi drivers get 1/2$ ,never had the same taxi driver I always leave 5/10 $ a day in room for house keeping ,then ask for extra body lotions/ whatever they provide that I like ,with a note saying thanks they are then happy to change the sheets every day or 2 on request 1$ a drink is normal ,if you want better service I tip 5$ now n then and say keep em coming ,they normally do 1$ to the doorman/ taxi guy 5$ to the waitress at start of meal ,bit more at end depending on service It can make a difference to the level of service you receive ,in the nugget on a busy night at the bar ,a beer always appeared in front of me soon as I sat down ,even when leaning on the bar in a break having a smoke a beer would appear ,they do remember who tips and look after you Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: tonytats on November 10, 2012, 10:12:54 AM Love tipping the taxi rank guy. Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: smashedagain on November 10, 2012, 10:37:26 AM So everyone tipping $20 for a room upgrade looks a winner but what if you slipped $100. Are there limits to how much of an upgrade they can give you or would you probably end up with the same upgrade you'd get slipping the $20
Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Simon Galloway on November 10, 2012, 10:38:00 AM Without turning this into a tipping thread, a couple more examples of good
1. Room maid. Depends what sort of room/suite/facilities you have in the room and how clean and tidy you are. Have a chat with her at the start of the stay, tell her if you want extra towels, more lotion, extra choccy, a razor, cutlery, want her to do the washing up, NEVER knock before midday, whatever it is you want. Either give her a good % of the tip for the stay up front (check she is the regular maid and not the relief maid covering a day off..) or feed her a $10 every couple of days and see the difference it makes. Obv as above, if you don't care for any of that, just leave her an appreciation as you see fit at the end of your stay and experience a regular set-up in the room. I've had fruit appear in the room, am still using shave gel from 2006!! (left $20 and asked for razors, shave gel and some extra choc, couldn't open the fridge door for choc and still have enough shave gel to last another couple of years..) Obviously that iosn't the culture over here, tip the room maid in a Premier Inn £10 and it will make absolutely no difference to the service you get... 2. The valet. In Bellagio, you probably aren't going to get much traction, but tipping a few bucks to have them park the car is one of the best deals in town. It wouldn't ordinarily make the list as that tip is expected, but you can get additional services... In quieter hotels, I have had valets do all sorts, fetch me books from the book store, change a battery in the remote key fob, buy a case of soft drinks, continually have the car parked right next to the valet station and somehow the car be ready ahead of the long line... And obviously I didn't get that by asking nicely.... Also, a long time ago, I pulled up late for a tournament in the valet Q.. the "Valet FULL" sign was up and a valet snarled at the guy in front of me and pointed him towards self park. Again, this didn't look to be a good situation as the valet approached me, so I jumped out, gave him $10 and said "think you can find room?" "Absolutely, do you need directions inside?" 3. Reducing wait times in restaurants. This one is a bit grey-er because I realise that probably someone else got shafted in the process. Given a buzzer in a popular restaurant, told to wait at the bar for 75-90 mins for a table, I turned round and saw a bar 4-deep and an awful lot of buzzers.... So I turned to the greeter, "Hey, I'm gonna bet you $20 that you can't get me one of the booths inside 20 minutes."(nice leather seashell booth round the outside rather than tables jam-packed on top of each other in the middle of the floor) "You have yourself a bet sir." No more than 5 minutes later the buzzer goes off and I am being led to a booth. My dining companion commented on what a shit bet that was.... then about 40 minutes later, the penny dropped and "Ohhhhhhhhhhhh.... ICWUDT..." Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: smashedagain on November 10, 2012, 10:44:43 AM I like this streetwise bossing it confidence. And I still think that is the best steak I've ever seen
Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Simon Galloway on November 10, 2012, 10:46:15 AM So everyone tipping $20 for a room upgrade looks a winner but what if you slipped $100. Are there limits to how much of an upgrade they can give you or would you probably end up with the same upgrade you'd get slipping the $20 If you are staying for 5 weeks, there's not a lot they can do... gonna be a hard one to convince their boss why they used their discretion on that... If you are staying Mon-Thurs on a quietish week, that's different. It's all about thinking what am I asking for here. If you are asking for $3k's worth of complimentaries, waving a $20 isn't really gonna cut it. Don't "slip in" anything. Ask what complimentary upgrades are available to you, make sure to let them know that you "tip for good service" and above all... spend 5 minutes on the friggin internet to make sure you understand the difference between the different room types in the hotel where you are staying. If the clerk says "what are you looking for" then... "err dunno like, summat a bit fancier" isn't the best answer. Depending on how long your stay is, whether or not it is a holiday weekend etc, have a clear idea of what you'd like. "I'd like a strip view south facing high floor, near the elevators please." Or, "I'd like a Deluxe resort troom (if such a room type exists and it is in fact an upgrade) please." Or "I'd like a Corner Suite please, but I'd be doubly appreciative if it was a Panoramic Suite" As to how ambitious that is will largely depend on how long your stay is, which clerk you get, how busy the hotel is, etc etc. Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Simon Galloway on November 10, 2012, 05:33:55 PM gg £200 :( If you can do in a bottle on a horse ridden by the bentest jockey of all... mama can have the limo, the chopper and the schmancy steakhouse surely.... Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: claypole on November 10, 2012, 05:49:54 PM More can work Jason, depending on length of stay - when I was at Platninum for four weeks, I gave the guy $200 and said I'd appreciate any help with my stay. I got upgraded to massive suite, free wifi - was $10 a days as no resot fee - water and fruit in room every day. Taxis were also a night mare - as off strip, so I got chatting to head man and after day one and a $50 tip they ran me everywhere in hotel courtesy car at no cost, just a small tip for whoever drove me. Obviously smaller place - but all the guys looked after me as I had them...best place I stayed in Vegas service wise.

Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Girgy85 on December 15, 2012, 11:17:56 AM Played the $125 tourny at Aria. Very nice cardroom.
Got down to the last 20 from 75. Been very tight for a couple of hours before a table redraw. Found 10's in ep @ 400/800/75 and made it 2k from 22k. New guy makes it 8k. I shoved and he called with AQ. Flop was 10 high but he went runner runner straight :( Was told about a good site which lists all the tournaments.... http://www.thepokeratlas.com/city/las-vegas/228/ Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: redsimon on December 15, 2012, 06:08:18 PM Decent MTT at Wynn today Girgy, $25K gtd $225 buy in, usually gets 100+ runners Midday start

122 runners, 12 paid with $3.8k up top :( On another note my cousin who works for same company as me gave us a lift to airport. He gave me £10 to put him a bet on roulette for his 14 moth old baby son. My first ever visit into the Venetian i walked upto a table and laid $15 on number 25. It only went and come in so $500 to the little man! Not sure what steak you ordered, or htf it came out greasy tho.. of all the mistakes they might make, not sure how grease was an option. Should have sent it back tho..

Anyone been there? Title: Re: 5 weeks to Vegas :D Post by: Longy on January 08, 2013, 04:42:43 PM I am going to NYC in March for a week and may take a trip up to Foxwoods in CT if I can get the wife interested in seeing the countryside ;) Anyone been there? Yes, poker room is big with plenty of choices with the cash games in what best could be described as a very big basement and tourneys up stairs. The casino is huge, I think it has the most gaming space of any casino in the world. If you want to take the wife to a casino with a bit of "wow" factor go to Mohegan sun which is about 10 miles from Foxwoods, would be up there with the top line Vegas casinos in terms of decor imo. The poker room is not anywhere near as good as foxwoods though. It is about 2 1/2 drive from NYC and yes there is plenty of countyside there! |
