Title: MTTs & Playing More Tables
Post by: VBlue on November 23, 2012, 10:18:04 AM
I've just been reading Jason Tompkins blog and he talks a little about playing more tables, being an advocate himslef for playing less.

As I am taking on a lot of work with my game at the moment, including mental game improvements and strategy coaching for MTTs, I am thinking about the game more as I play. I currently play up to 4 tables, but recognise that I may need to drop down to 1 or 2.

I know that some still would not dream of trying to multi-table at all, whilst others play 20+ for volume and variance purposes. What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages? When do you know you are playing well enough to be able to add more effectively and when is it having a detrimental effect on your play and results?

the key is just finding a happy medium for yourself. Im very comfortable playing upto 20 at a time, obv comfortable doesn't equal playing optimally but later on when i have stacks deep i will be 12 tabling ish.
Some people reach their optimum table number, say 12 tables then will reg as they bust one. I just reg my schedule from the start and if im a little busy so be it.

Can i ask who you are getting strategy mtt coaching from please.

Its all about general feel and comfort levels. When i turned 18 i hopped right into 2.20 180mans and soon got up to an extremely high number of tables with tableninja etc. Now in mtts i can probably 18 table, but i don't have the screenspace atm, and much prefer to play 6-12. Its just practise, i made a bacon sandwich 8 tabling last night, no timeouts or any other issues. Just take your time, build up slowly, and if you have the time/motivation, register 20 $1 sngs at once and give it a shot ^.^

If you plan on multi tabling you must invest in hot key software such as table ninja if you haven't  already. It's a bit fiddly setting up but worth it. It's the only way I have been able to 15-20 table without timing out.

I do the same as trigg and just pre reg everything and if i get busy then so be it. Comfortable with up to 20 with no ninja, optimal is probably 12-16 imo. As everyone has said though, just gota build up overtime just keep adding 1 more table after you feel comfortable with x tables for a few sessions.
