Anyone ever done one? Best places to visit? How long does it take? How much did it cost you? Tips?

Went from LA to Seattle, great time, spent a couple of weeks doing it, would rather have taken longer but didn't have time.  Would deffo do another, probably coast to coast next time.

I have enjoyed everyone I have done and have covered the majority of the US and bits of Canada doing it.

My personal preference is the west coast anywhere between the Pacific coast and the rockies. Depending on time issues I would probably start with California including San Francisco, Vegas, San Diego and LA. You get the perfect mix of big cities and stunning diverse rural scenery.

  I've done several driving trips around the states up and down both coasts.When it comes to cities plan where your going to stay otherwise you can end up in some ropey areas,compared to small town America just play it by ear stop when you feel like it,cheap motel/hotels everywhere.
  West coast is beautiful the California Pacific road-route 1 is fantastic as are the national parks in the west,however i've always prefered the Southern states-Carolinas ,Georgia,Tennesee etc people are fantastic.
 I think i've been to about twenty of the States so any specific areas you fancy?

Did pacific coast highway last year LA to SF and then yosemite on the way back down, loved every minute.

Best places to visit? Any of the US works, I would personally avoid the "fly over" states (dakotas, nebraska etc). More a case of what do you really want to see/experience

How long does it take? Iteniary can massively vary, probably want to give yourself a min of 10 days to really call it a roadtrip imo up to 3 months (which is how long the yanks will let you stay!). I did do one last year which took 2 months and that was almost too long but awesome looking back at it.

How much did it cost you? Can't remember exact figures. When I went with my bro managed to do 5 weeks for about 2k-3k pp really watching what we spent as he was on a tight budget.

Tips? Priceline and hotwire for cheap decent hotels. Tipping gets you a long way in the US, females love English accents especially in more rural places!

I wanna take the girlfriend sorry fiancé and thinking the west coast would be ideal.

Prob wanna do 10-14 days and end up with 2-3 days in Vegas and do LA California and San Fran etc

So gonna cost me about £5k for the two of us?

West coast is amazing, so much to see and do, you'll have a great time.

Monetary wise that sounds fine for that trip living not lavishly but pretty well.
