Title: RIP Sir Patrick Moore
Post by: Sheriff Fatman on December 09, 2012, 01:24:15 PM
A man who's presence of TV never seemed to wane, no matter what his age.

Regardless of whether you had any interest in his subject matter, you couldn't help but be enthused by his love for it.

And he played a mean xylophone too!

Rest in peace.

Oh no, this is SO sad.

A totally & utterly incredible man.

RIP Sir Patrick, you gave so much pleasure to so many, for so long.

Shared a birthday with him, which made we watch him when I was younger.

RIP.

very sad news. A true legend and is resonsible for a lot of astronomy hobbies!

More than that, I'd say that just about everyone now working in astronomy/astrophysics in this country first got into it though watching The Sky At Night as a kid.

Patrick's failing health in recent years meant his role on the show had been reduced to essentially nothing more than mascot (he could barely talk) so the show can continue with established presenters.

An incredible man. A very overused word, but truly a legend. RIP

He is to astronomy what David Attenborough is to natural history.

He is to astronomy what David Attenborough is to natural history.

Even more so, I'm not at all clued up on astronomy and of course it doesn't get as much coverage. But what other 'names' are there in astronomy in the 21st century?

Can imagine science classes in schools around the country/world going to be putting more emphasis on astronomy in the coming weeks.

RIP

I'll always remember him as The GamesMaster.
