Title: Re: Things to do in New York Post by: outragous76 on December 12, 2012, 07:55:33 AM There is a restaurant (informal) on the lake in Central park (called something like "restaurant on the lake"), lovely for a lunch time relax - try to get a table overlooking the lake
Walk through central park and take your time - amazing I enjoyed the Empire state - but go very very early to avoid silly queues Eating breakfast at Pershing Square (near grand central station - you have to book - lots of business breakfasts going on - great people watching affair and good food Title: Re: Things to do in New York Post by: DaveShoelace on December 12, 2012, 08:41:54 AM Top of the Rockafella is, imo, better than the Empire, because you get a bitchin view of the Empire also. They also have the NBC studio tour (which is only ok, but they have a good gift shop).
When we went, we essentially just wanted to replicate scenes from classic NYC TV and Movies. So the Piano from Big is at FAO Schwartz near Central Park. Oh and the Seinfeld Cafe is at 112th street http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom%27s_Restaurant. Central Park is great, not sure what its like in winter though If you want a good view of the Statue of Liberty, I recommend a cruise instead of going there. Again, its probably fookin freezing there right now so maybe not. Your a big stand-up fan right? You should go to the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village, its a real dive but its the comedy club in NYC and most weeks a big name pops in for a surprise spot. http://www.comedycellar.com/ If you do go there, there was a really good pan-Japanese/Brazillian restaurant nearby called Sushi Samba Baseball sucks, I presume its off season now anyway, but only go there if you wanna see the stadium etc. The Natural History Museum is great but be warned, they say it takes two days to walk round the thing, so dont turn up when you have an hour to kill like we did. Title: Re: Things to do in New York Post by: TightEnd on December 12, 2012, 09:30:47 AM The immigration museum on Ellis Island is good, ferry across to the statue of liberty...
Ground Zero Natural History Museum Museum of Modern Art Try and eat dinner in Tao, good for people watching Going up into Harlem on a tour is fun Tour of the Fed reserve, they take you six floors under and round the Gold vaults Grand Central station is a must visit for an hour or so Empire State, obv try and do things first thing, then be off the beaten path/eating/relaxing middle of days when they queues are at their height Title: Re: Things to do in New York Post by: ACE2M on December 12, 2012, 09:35:29 AM go and have a burger at Le Parker Meridien hotel

Title: Re: Things to do in New York Post by: Jon MW on December 12, 2012, 12:17:53 PM I'm planning a trip to Manhattan, I'd think
Upper: Guggenheim Museum, Natural History Museum, The Met, Central Park + Barneys and Bloomingdales Mid: Top of the Rockefeller Center (a very strong consensus that this is better than the Empire), Grand Central Station, UN Building tour, Macy's and the big post office by Penn Station (that probably has a proper name somewhere) Lower: Brooklyn Bridge leading to the Tweed Courthouse and City Hall + South Street Seaport Museum, and the other things around Wall St, Battery Park etc. would be a vague summary of points I'm planning on passing by at the moment. To be fair - Things to do in New York is a pretty broad subject :D Title: Re: Things to do in New York Post by: kinboshi on December 12, 2012, 12:34:02 PM If you can get tickets for that, get tickets for that. Title: Re: Things to do in New York Post by: AndrewT on December 12, 2012, 10:25:52 PM Thanks for the tips.
Already been up the Rock, view was, indeed, bitching. MoMA was also good, though not quite as good as Tate Modern. Have spent today with a hangover (following successful exploration of bars last night) - thinking of maybe a bit of culture later (seeing as drinking is out for tonight) Title: Re: Things to do in New York Post by: Longy on December 12, 2012, 10:30:55 PM Brooklyn Promenade is good for a pleasant walk and a stunning view looking back over Manhattan. You can include walking the Brooklyn bridge in this as well, best done but getting the subway to Brooklyn and then walking back to Manhattan as the skyline is constantly in sight.
