Great idea, and will generate a lot of interest.

But, isn't it meant to be a tour of....France?

Went to the Tour when it was in Portsmouth alot of years ago.

Bit of a disappointment to be honest.

Rather watch a good Rugby League game.

I believe the opening stage or stages are traditionally, or at least often, held outside Frenchie land. Bit like when the NFL comes to London, it raises the profile of the brand. Nothing to do with commercial considerations, or sponsorship, of course.

On a separate note, there was great excitement within Sky (Big Sky) when this became known a few days ago, as Sky are heavily committed to cycling. SB&G were pretty chuffed too, as we are Leeds based, so a perfect fit really.

I did manage to spot one of my sporting heroes, Miguel Indurain, in the peleton for about 1.5 seconds and spend about £30 on assorted worthless tat.

In France it used to be Team & Race Sponsors would arrive before the race went through a town giving away free merchandise, t-shirts, posters & stuff. I still have some Bannesto & Motorola t-shirts & caps :)

I'm reliably informed Yorkshire folk don't pronounce the "t", unlike their neighbours on'other side o'Pennines.

You essentially have to put in a glottal stop to be accurate.

As for the Tour, I hope they go down the entire M1 (it is Leeds-London, right?) and we have ITV4 commentating on Vinoukourov dodging a souped-up Citroën Saxo or Contador having to navigate his way between a lorry overtaking another in the middle lane.

Surprised Abdou only won two stages.

I thought he used to win 5 or 6 per tour!

Yeah, Djamolidine Abdoujaparov, a name I'd not heard in awhile let alone said.

He was a mean & vicious rider, remember that massive crash in Paris?

This will bring back memories for you Keith, before widescreen!
