Title: Tablets Post by: Rod on December 24, 2012, 10:46:14 AM I am buying a tablet in Jan as I am hoping that I will get them a bit cheaper than normal as I am a nit.
I only really want it for the following reasons 1) Everybody else has them and I wanna look cool 2) To look at the internet and check email when out and about 3) Play online poker 4) Anything else I have not figured out I can do with it yet Ipads seem to be the in thing so I was going to get one of those but I was playing with my mates Galaxy yesterday and quite liked it, they seem much cheaper too? What tablets would people on here recommend? Should I just get an ipad? Considering the amount I use it its also the best value one too.
Title: Re: Tablets Post by: nirvana on December 24, 2012, 12:58:19 PM I have a very light small notebook PC which I'm happy using at home. Since I got the Galaxy SIII I'm finding the tablet I have pretty much redundant. There just aren't many 'on the go' scenarios where my phone isn't a lot more convenient than a tablet. Could be just personal but imagine a lot of people find their tablet a nice extra gadget that doesn't get used much.
I kinda had to have one but, with hindsight, I wouldn't have bothered Title: Re: Tablets Post by: Jon MW on December 24, 2012, 01:01:16 PM ... Ipads seem to be the in thing so I was going to get one of those ... neatly encapsulating the whole of Apple's marketing strategy I think all the tablets do all you want so it's probably a question of which one looks the nicest which is on a good deal isn't it? EDIT: just read Nirvana's post, that's basically why I don't have a tablet - everything I'd do on a tablet I already do on my phone, but the above applies if you still want one anyway Title: Re: Tablets Post by: Woodsey on December 24, 2012, 01:20:58 PM ... Have to agree with Andrew here. Use it endlessly, & can never get over how user-friendly the interface is, it is actually a perfect delight to use. I'm sure a smarty phone does all the same cool stuff, but old fat fingers don't work so good with moby keyboards, whereas the I-Pad (or any Tablet I suppose) has a huge keyboard. An ideal gift, too. I'm a little dodgy with the clever things it does though. Last night, In Luton, I was introduced to something called "apps". Seem quite handy things. I can play the pianoforte on it too (via "Virtuoso") except I can't play the piano. Agreed, although I tend to use it mostly at home. Title: Re: Tablets Post by: Jon MW on December 24, 2012, 01:54:42 PM ... Yes, that's why I left my first point - if you do want a tablet they pretty much all do everything you need it for so you might as well just buy the prettiest/shiniest/snazziest/cheapest ... depending on what your own preference is. Although the Kindle Fire is primarily still an electronic book gadget, so that probably only becomes best if you mainly want to read books on your tablet. But if you've got an android phone it might make more sense to get an android tablet. There's also the Windows tablet route as well... I am generally with Woodsey. Not even sure if I love the wife as much as I love my Ipad!!!

Very happy I went for 2 of these for the kids. Things like the voice input just makes them speak clearly. Pleased you have one to kinboshi make technical support a bit easier. ;D If you can think of anything that may be good for the Girls 10/7 1st tech Question. Sarah went to Newark PC world to collect. They dealt her on a Norton Security thing. Would you use it? Regards M Title: Re: Tablets Post by: Simon Galloway on December 26, 2012, 02:42:50 PM Just bought a Nexus also. I notice the Stars FPP store offer a Kaspersky one licence (will cover up to 5 smartphones/tablets etc) for approx a tenner's worth of fpps
a) is that good value b) is it a good product/good idea given the kids will use it more than I do. Reading the spec on the Ipad looks like I should be able too. I assume this is the case.

Was a little worried that it may be an expensive gimmick .
Not so. I use It everyday, several times a day and occasionally all day. So easy and convenient. Title: Re: Tablets Post by: Rod on December 26, 2012, 09:57:52 PM Does everybody find the battery life on the ipad ok?
Title: Re: Tablets Post by: Gemini Kings on December 26, 2012, 10:28:08 PM Does everybody find the battery life on the ipad ok? Yes quite reasonable really. Turning the screen brightness down helps the battery. Also set the fetch new data in the mail settings to hourly and disable blue tooth if your are not using it. I get two or three days of moderate use between charges. Title: Re: Tablets Post by: sovietsong on December 26, 2012, 10:43:02 PM does anybody have an ipad mini?
