Title: Groundhopping
Post by: redarmi on January 11, 2013, 10:24:48 PM
Not really sure where this should go but thought a few on here might appreciate it especially Tighty and Tikay.  Makes me want to plan a groundhopping trip.

Wonderfully evocative, & oh-so-very English.

Great Yarmouith Town is incredible, it should get Listed Status.

Brimscome & Thrupp pretty neat, too.

The Matlock one I know very well, it is adjacent the Rugby Ground & perhaps THE most spectacular "Village Green" Cricket Pitch in Derbyshire. "Trigg" (the name on the stand) is the name for the local steel stockholders, not the famous Trigg who scooped the lot last Sunday.

The best has to be Nanpean Rovers (East Cornwall League, Division One). Utterly lovely.

More of these sort of things please.

Slightly off topic, but the metal rails that surround most non league clubs now are dangerous. It really just takes two players running for the same ball on the sideline, one of them to trip and smash their head quite hard on it. Just think they are unnecessary and the walls that the skiers use in races should be put up instead (or something similar) as I am sure it is only up to make sure fans don't go too close to the pitch.

You see it in the higher league games as well, the advertising boards a little too close to the pitch and there have been injuries sustained from jumping over these or colliding straight into them.

Thought I would bring it up here because I think a measure was put in place so that every non league club needed this rail around the pitch.

Dulwich Hamlet FC is quite a nice ground too.
