Title: Flopped Straight - Live 1-1
Post by: Reidy-FX on January 16, 2013, 07:53:21 PM
Hi Guys,

First post on here. I've been enjoying reading a lot of the threads on here lately having started playing more live poker after ~10 years of online recreational play. I'm looking to improve my live game and it seems a good way is to post and comment on hands here.

Live 1-1.  9 handed

Hero UTG (£120)   been at the table a couple of hours, not got out of line
UTG+1 (~100) Raising 2-3 times per orbit Pre-flop and always C-Betting. Stack has been up and down.
UTG+2 (~80) Playing tight
CO (~130) Passive pre-flop, Loose, been splashing in lots of pots post-flop, lots of raising and making big bluffs

Hero dealt  Kh Qh and limps.  There is a good chance this will be limped around. I'm happy to play a multi-way pot, for a limp or to a single raise.
UTG+1 Raises to 5
4 callers and i call

Flop (31) -  Ts Aspades Jc

May or may not be relevant - There is a Royal Flush Jackpot that gets mentioned every time it is possible. hand must go to showdown to win it

Hero Checks
UTG+1 Bets 6
UTG+2 Raises to 16
CO raises to 29
Folds to Hero who ???

Despite a raise and a re-raise the bet size is still not that big. All options seem awkward with these stack sizes.

Comments are welcome on all actions.

Nothing but jamming makes much sense to me, given eff stack size.

Only option is to jam surely?

If you flat, you may end up 4 ways to a turn where you hate a lot of cards.

I guess we could go 55, and try and get heads up to the turn? You are then still hating a lot of cards, and some very competent players (maybe not in this game?!) may find the fold.

You win more (if called) when you jam.

You get called more often when you jam. You get called by only one player more often when you jam, and this has to be what we are aiming for here?

We have the nuts, right? Happy days get it in before an action killer hits the turn.

I like raising pre fwiw.

If we go all in in this spot do we expect opponents to put us on anything but the nuts?

Yes. All sorts of non-nut hands shove here, including flush draws.

Jamming gotta be better than calling here, even if they all think we're super duper strong and fold we've still made over £75 which is lovely and dipping your balls in the original bettors pint of guiness is better than folding - so by that process, I'd be all in.

Don't worry too much about how to look weak here because at the end of the day you've put £5 in before the flop and you're now facing 3 bets COLD on an AJTss flop the only thing you can possibly do to not look really really strong here is fold and we've already established we can't do that :P

I like raising pre fwiw.

Nah limping is def better, everyones going to call anyway so we'll have to have it to win regardless, may as well do it as cheap as possible.

Also if someone makes a squeeze/raise you feel could be weak it's a v good hand to backraise with

what? limping is terrible? we have a very good value hand, if they will all call make it biog enough so they call wide but not everybody calls, just standard adjustment?

Nahhh it could be a leak but i'd basically always open limp on a £1-1 table. I can see merit to making it £6 though yeah. Usually live games just mean we put a few extra bb's in the pot utg and achieved no change in the amount of callers, with a hand that goes well multiway anyway.

yeh just make it big, kq is defintiely a legit part of our value range that i expect to be dominaiting peeling ranges. if anything its probably a better hand than 1010 and you wouldnt limp 1010 right?

Raise pre.

Jam flop seems like only option here.

Results:

I did jam and everyone folded. UTG+2 did think for a bit first, and later told me he folded A-10. I'm pretty sure he was being honest, but i was surprised my shove would fold out this hand.

I think i will have to start thinking more about pre-flop actions and making more adjustments based on how the table is reacting do different raise sizes.
