Title: First appearance, be nice
Post by: Steve Swift on January 18, 2013, 04:16:04 PM
My first post here, got to take the plunge some time.

Playing these games to practice cash as i literally have never played before.  Getting Hud set up etc  The little bit i have played i have seen things like ak  and AA  limping on the button with 4 in a pot etc.  Loads and loads of trapping and the like which i did not expect.

I have been pasting loads of hands in note pad wanting to post and quite frankly every other hand i could have stuck in PHA because there are so many questions.  Of course the fact that this is 1/2 cent is a little embarrassing but hey ho, i anticipate you guys will still look at it in the same way you would any other.

Any way on to this one. This is about the 7th  hand on the table  ish , so know nothing on any of the  players.  His big donk lead told me what i needed to known ....what do you do.

You are dead.  He is screeming at the top if his voice that you are anyway.  The only way he could scream louder is by making the first bet 2c.

But hey ho, it is 1c/2c he could have anything.

Raise more pre.

stacking off w/ak on 742 vs a 2.5x overbet donk would indeed be terrible.

as it is, your biggest mistake, well not biggest, but this will be a fundamental mistake is opening to 0.04 pre flop. why would you ever min raise deep w/ak vs whales who are not folding, ever.

on the flop i think its a pretty clear call and reevaluate the turn.

oh 2nd mistake is not having auto top up on, its a complete basic thing, thus inexcusable, when you play at a site the first things you should do is

1) auto buy in
2) auto top up
3) choose the right colours of felt/animations blah for you
4) align holdem manager and make sure hands are saved/import works
5) set up different pot size buttons up if they have them (in this case you could use the 3 or 4x button pre flop and the call button on the flop

Pleno, he's playing 1c/2c ffs. I think that means it's excusable.

I think what pleno means is in future make sure when you move to  a new site to have a look at these things, in future it would be fairly inexcusable not to have them set up where possible.

Steve If you don't want to post them all, please feel free to pm me a good chunk of hands (10 or so is cool), no matter how basic. I'll have a crack and highlight any I'm unsure on/find someone who is sure and send you a response.

Cool, thanks for the responses.

Some of the things pleno mentioned i am aware of, some not so, i am happy for all comments.  I was keen to get some hands to get my Hud set up ect so am clearly not ready for the big time yet but really wanted to participate in this thread.

I thought min raise was now the norm, obv not.

His raise on the flop was uber fast, which i thought meant he clearly had not given it any thought, does he want action or not?  It is 1c/2c so he could have anything. I am green so you can imagine what i did, i guess you don't need me to tell you but i called and he had A4.

This is exactly what i thought, but still called. Incidently have been in this spot again today and didnt call, maybe i have learnt something. TY

I would be opening to 7 or 8c with every hand you are opening with.

Your flop raise (as a multiple) is also, in general, too small, though it might be correct here, when your opponent has overbet.

At micro stakes, you want to be making (relatively) large bets.

Don't try to be fancy, try to make people give you lots of money.

Min raises are standard in tournaments especially after a few levels, but not so much in cash.

Also, bet and raise bigger at micro stakes. Fish will still call, and there's a lot of fish at micro stakes cash. Playing TAG will mean you print money at this level. As PaintingByNumbers said, $0.08 is probably a good opening raise size at this level, plus I'd suggest adding a bb for every limper (You probably do that in tournaments already I guess?)

Btw, your 'Stars alias is familiar to me - Didn't you FT a Sunday Storm once during Micro Millions? I was railing someone else on the FT and remember coming on here and seeing someone had FT'd. If that's the case, then I'm ;gobsmacked; that you've never played cash before.

Steve

If it's folded round, you could consider min raising on the button with a very high % of your hands if the blinds are folding a lot.  You are basically bluffing and when they do play back you want to lose the minimum.

Fwiw, I'm not, but that's why I don't play these stakes!
