Title: River Spot 30nl
Post by: AJR14 on January 20, 2013, 06:50:22 PM
Hi, Thanks for the responses to my first post and after the help the forum gave me i have another hand. I am going to start posting regular hands and post on others hands but trying to get used to the forum before i do that.

Anyway, another hand from sky poker so apologies for the quality of the post but if anyone has ever tried to use their god awful software they will understand why its not the best looking post

Villain

Villain is a semi reg who plays one or two tables. They don't seem to get out of line too much and i would see them as tight passive. they do tend to make mistakes in some pots like calling too wide in spots. They do fold a lot post flop so by the river they will always have something. They rarely become aggressive

3 questions for the hand
- sizing of flop and turn. sizings is a part of my game i usually struggle with
- river sizing, the thinking at the time was that they are folding a lot on this river so i bet so small to get wide calls from small flushes and stubborn 2 pairs etc and maybe induce them to turn their hands into a bluff.
- how do we react to their river raise. we obv never folding. Calling or raising?

betting small otr to try and make a tight passive player who rarely makes aggressive move make a bluff is a bit stupid. bet bigger each street and call river as played imo. if he's not a tard he's not raise calling worse surely

I did jam the river but when looking back at the hand i started to question what sort of hands will raise call here. Even though the chap isn't the best player if they raised the Queen high flush on the river doesn't the shove over the top instantly make him think they are beat leaving only the better hands calling?

What would be the best sizing for the river here? I always seem to go into 'i want worse to call mode' so bet smaller on these type of boards where the worse hands are going to think they are beat a lot.

Like everyone else bet bigger on each street. The turn particularly, that card makes tons of strong 'second best' hands as well as some pair+draw type hands. The straights/worse flushes/2 pair hands made on the turn will nearly always call a big river bet too so it makes sense to punish them + pair and a draw never folds turn but may fold river.
