Quote South African Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been arrested over the fatal shooting of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp at his home, local media say. Police said they have charged a 26-year-old man with murder, but did not confirm it was Mr Pistorius. ;gobsmacked; Title: Re: Gun Runner Post by: kinboshi on February 14, 2013, 11:12:08 AM (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc43/kinboshi/_65881016_65881015_zps0ced2a02.jpg)

I couldn't help but draw parallels with Lance Armstrong. To overcome the adversities that both of them did needs an incredibly driven personality type. As we saw with Armstong, he's essentially a sociopath. Determined, yes, but also a bullying control freak. In the Paralympics, when Pistorious got beaten by the Brazilian guy, they first thing he did was whinge about the other guy ('oooh his legs are too long') rather than look inwardly for any fault with his own performance. Now we hear he has form for violent outbursts. I think it's likely that Pistorius is just a very similar personality type to Lance Armstong - both very selfish individuals with little regard for others. In a way, incidents like this (and the Kansas Chief lb who shot his gf and then killed himself) are more persuasive arguments for gun control than the mass murders where psycho's gonna psycho. Seemingly normal people lose control in a argument and grab a gun a shoot the person they are arguing with. If they didn't have a gun readily to hand, the worst that would happened would the girlfriend's might have got a black eye. Of course, they could grab a kitchen knife and do the job that way when the red-mist descends, but it's easier to pull a trigger and the effects of a gun shot are generally more substantial. Much harder to stab someone to death than shoot them. Title: Re: Gun Runner Post by: The Camel on February 15, 2013, 04:40:18 PM Jake has just found out about the shooting.
He did a project at school about Pistorius before the Olympics and he was a probably his first sporting hero. Trying to explain to a 7 year old what happened: you can mark that down as one of the most difficult conversations I've ever had. Title: Re: Gun Runner Post by: DMorgan on February 15, 2013, 04:43:19 PM Met Louis Theroux on a train a few months after the Vegas documentary came out, I hadn't been to Vegas at the time but he was pretty interested in the mental aspects of being a poker player. Thoroughly lovely chap too.
Title: Re: Gun Runner Post by: Marky147 on February 15, 2013, 04:50:39 PM I know plenty of people who use steroids and have known them before they started using them too.
The stroppy lads, were still stroppy and the ones who weren't prior to using steroids didn't become Pat Tate after a few courses... Title: Re: Gun Runner Post by: DaveShoelace on February 15, 2013, 04:52:02 PM I think Louis Theroux is possibly the best interviewer in the business, the way he gets everyone to let their guard down, Saville did a good job keeping tight lipped.
This will always be my highlight YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHb7HDSSi_A Title: Re: Gun Runner Post by: kinboshi on February 15, 2013, 05:09:09 PM Jake has just found out about the shooting.
