Title: Richard Briers
Post by: The Camel on February 18, 2013, 12:59:54 PM
Really is dead.

Very sad news for me, one of my favourite comedy actors.

He was brilliant in Ever Decreasing Circles.

RIP

Ever Decreasing Circles is one of the great underrated British comedies. It was a family favourite in our house. RIP

Agree.

While The Good Life was easy viewing and obviously good fun, EDC was dark and fantastic - really showed off his talents.

Any actor could have played Tom Good, but Briers excelled in EDC.

Very sad news, a great comedy actor.

His son -in-law works for us, so we will be raising a glass or two of red tonight.

RIP

Agreed, a brilliant, obsessive, paranoid, but loveable, little man type character. The guy that played Paul was also fantastic as his nemesis.

I had a crush on the woman who played his Mrs in EDC.

RIP Richard.

I'm sure the BBC will show an episode of The Good Life as a tribute.

Rather see the episode of EDC where Paul broke all the village cricket team records.

The Good Life, Ever Decreasing Circles, Roobarb and Custard - all fond memories from my youth.

A sad loss.

Just seeing this clip from a movie trailer made me want to watch this movie (the movie isn't great, Richard Briars was).

Think I've found the right the parts:

Apologies if I've not got the right ones. Hugely underrated show. Never been one for the Good Life. Hard to find a show anywhere on TV where so many of the main characters are loathsome.

Fabulous actor. Much missed already.

That's the one.

Brilliant stuff.

Bit harsh on The Good Life.

Paul Eddington was always incredibly watchable.

As was Felicity's Kendall's bottom.

Don't get me wrong. Brilliantly acted.

I just didn't get any attachment to the characters. The whole notion that a city worker packs his job in, moves to suburbia and starts a pig farm/chicken coup/whatever so his poor wife has to come along is just unbearable... Especially for poor Margot and her hubby.

I'd side with the neighbours but they're both pompous wretches, too.

Still watched pretty much all of them :D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rear_of_the_Year

1981 Rear of the Year.

That's some notable "where are they now" celebs on that list!

Carol Smilie, John Altman and Sarah Lancashire to name but three.

Carol Smilie has the most extensive wiki page for a Z list celeb I've ever seen!

Must be the work of a crazed stalker type.

Frank Skinner won the same year as Carol Smilie.

1999 winner is now married to the 2007 winner (no, not Robbie Williams and Sian Lloyd...)

I've now learned that Natasha Hamilton was not an original member of Atomic Kitten.

More incredible than that - I know - the original member she replaced was Heidi Range from off of the Sugarbabes.

Not surprised about Ian Wright. Arse.

John Altman became the lead singer of Heavy Metal Kids.

Camel this is ridiculous. I've got work in the morning!

I'm off to bed.
