Having now played around a dozen times live I came across a 'cheat' attempt at the weekend.
I was at my local to get some practice in a 90 player tourney down to three tables when the dealer on the table next to me shouted out 'new cards please' and i over heard him say there was a marked card.
About ten minutes later we broke to two tables and three of the players on this marked card table joined us, no more than ten hands in and our dealer shouts 'new cards please' so being naive to the fact this could happen I asked to have a look and the  Aspades had a thumb squeeze in it- one of the three who had joined us said how he was a dealer from another casino and its so noticeable when dealing if this has been done so it was quite apparent to me it was one of the other two.

We all know its pretty low to do this and I hadn't even imagined anyone would do but it got me thinking what other methods have been used so all us players with integrity can be aware of what could go on.

Anyone got any experiences to share?

Tbh I have seen hundreds of decks exchanged because of marked cards. I would say that aces and broadway cards account for less than 1% of all marked cards. Its nearly always some random middle card.

Marking cards has to be a pretty ineffective way of cheating too.

I saw a guy bite his cards once when he was all in. Wasn't the most subtle attempt of marking a card I had ever seen.

If the quality of the cards is poor, then they can be marked by most peoples methods of bending back the cards.

WSOP cards are the utter worst, 5 hands in and half the deck is marked.

Interesting home type game where a newb turned up from a facebook invite. Turned out he 'acquired' extra chips during a break. Under pressure and overwhelming evidence admitted his crime, but didn't see the severity of it and insisted if he was being chucked out he wanted his stake back  ;busted;

yup I lasted 5 hands rofl.

LOL at the misuse of statistics.  Clearly just trolling to catch me out.

To be fair though, Jason spends a lot of time playing with Chinese guys, who can't help marking dem snowmen.

If you're good enough to spot a thumbnail in seat 2's cards from seat 8, you really shouldn't be in a £30 comp. This is my mentality to these things and yet it happens frequently with people who play entirely on the strength of their own hand.

What was the point of marking that seven again?

looks like it happens regular then...i will have to double up early next time and build a little fortress with my chips to hide the cards behind   :cheers:

There was a 'big' case of this in Northampton Aspers last year I think where a few players were banned from all Aspers and I heard the police were talked to. 
(might've been yr before I've lost track)

Apparently the same few players were on a regular basis marking the same particular cards, to the point where I 'heard' one of the more experienced dealers was put on their tables deliberately to pay attention to it.

I'm told there were also allegations of chip dumping, collusion and chip stealing (Early on to bring in another day type thing)...


Incredible... Just couldn't believe that people would do this in weekly comps, especially people who could win anyway.

There was a player at Luton, that won a big pot in a comp, got paid out in double, as the dealer was getting confused with the colour of the chips. No one noticed at the time, then the player told the card room manager AFTER they had won the comp...

Mmmmmm I wonder who that was ???
