Title: What a great play
Post by: bobby1 on January 20, 2006, 12:08:56 AM

From Ben Grundy's blog...I hope he doesnt mind.

On a side note Ivey knocked out Marcel with a great call. Ivey raised UTG to 3500 to play. Blinds were 600/1200. Marcel called on the button. Flop 29T rainbow. Ivey bet 5000. Marcel pushed all in for about 25000. Ivey ponders for 2/3 minutes.... then says i am calling as i think you have JQ which is the only hand i am dominating. Ivey turns over QK and wins the pot with K high.

I think it would take the avarage player all of his/her life to learn to make plays like that one, If they ever could reach that ability level. Fantastic.

The saying goes that 'the eyes are the windows to the soul'.

When I see Phil Ivey make plays like this, it makes me think that he has the ability to throw a brick through those windows, climb inside, and have a good nose around before he comes to his decision.

But did Marcel have JQ? If he then turned over 7-8 suited or 7-4 o/s and was making a move "Wilson style" then maybe Ivey isnt as good as everyone makes out....... ::)

I read about this call on the updates... I reckoned that he must've thought a gutshot and 2 overs, maybe putting him on a10! But hearing that he called marcels cards and was right is amazing...

This guy does seem to be a level above anyone at the moment, I would love to play this guy! You would learn so much being at the table with him... He was still outplayed by andy black in the wsop main ( A2 third raise vs iveys raise and reraise with k6 lol )

i officially feel like i have sooo much to learn now!
