Title: Joe's new guitar Post by: AdamM on April 18, 2013, 01:40:48 PM My son turned 8 on Monday and I bought him his first electric guitar.
Really looking forward to teaching him to be a rock god. Let the journey begin Here's his first ever chord. I didn't tell him to play it like that though. Think he's a natural :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X18uPE9aWC8 Title: Re: Joe's new guitar Post by: bobAlike on April 18, 2013, 01:47:48 PM ;applause;

Title: Re: Joe's new guitar Post by: AdamM on April 18, 2013, 02:03:34 PM so far I've shown him A, D, G & E at the nut, plus power chords.
Going to leave him alone with that for a couple of weeks and then see if I can turn them into a few songs for him. I'm planning to film him after every month to show him his progress. So easy to give up at the start when it's tough. Title: Re: Joe's new guitar Post by: outragous76 on April 18, 2013, 02:18:19 PM so far I've shown him A, D, G & E at the nut, plus power chords. Title: Re: Joe's new guitar Post by: AdamM on April 18, 2013, 02:53:46 PM I'm starting him on Green Day and AC/DC
Oasis is setting the bar a bit low ;) Title: Re: Joe's new guitar Post by: Laxie on April 18, 2013, 03:10:39 PM I'm starting him on Green Day and AC/DC Oasis is setting the bar a bit low ;) ;applause; Hero Dad imo. Can't wait for the next video. Title: Re: Joe's new guitar Post by: Karabiner on July 05, 2013, 10:35:21 AM Love that last video, Joe seems right into it.
Although he might want to look at replacing the old head-banger playing rythm guitar before long. Title: Re: Joe's new guitar Post by: AdamM on July 05, 2013, 10:41:51 AM I'm very much looking forward to him catching me up and then over taking me.
One ambition I have got is for me and him to play The Trooper by Iron Maiden together, with him doing the Dave Murray left channel and me doing the Adrian Smith right channel. It's going to take quite a few years to get there, but that'll be fantastic. Lot's of work to do in the mean time. 3 Months - Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be Still not worrying too much about accuracy. Plying the chords at the nut, rather than the broken chords further up the neck that Angus and Malcolm would. Still very much about enjoying jamming to the track. The things I was happiest about in the performance where that he was having fun and even showing off a bit, that he got a bit lost but recovered, and best of all, that he lost his plectrum during the lead break and soldiered on. What a pro! Going to try something a bit different next month. Maybe get some power chords going and try a different band to cover. Well done Joe. Looking forward to the next one. Title: Re: Joe's new guitar Post by: Woodsey on July 14, 2013, 10:54:27 PM Did u ask him if he maybe wanted to play the flute? Just checking like........... ;whistle;
Title: Re: Joe's new guitar Post by: AdamM on July 14, 2013, 11:54:04 PM I did suggest piano, as you can't rest a pint on a guitar.
No, lead guitarist it will be :) Considering a bit of NWOBHM next month Living After Midnight to get the power chords going Title: Re: Joe's new guitar Post by: AdamM on August 05, 2013, 09:07:15 AM Should still be doing a 4 month Video with Joe in a couple of weeks, although we've been super busy with other stuff so it might not be a full new song. More of a power chord exercise I think. We'll see how we go.
In the meantime, my band, Dynamite Billy played a couple of great gigs this weekend, including a local corperate gig / out door festival type thing, and there was some decent video taken. If you like what you see, please go to www.facebook.com/dynamitebilly and give us a like. Couple of months in between videos because we tried to add some power chords to the already learned chords at the nut. Joe's hands are so small though, he's finding it a real struggle. So we played this track with Joe playing root chords he already knows with small two string bars chords for the F and G in the bridges. We're going to build further on that next month. Got a few ideas for songs to work on with that. http://youtu.be/9v7l7tfjwJI Title: Re: Joe's new guitar Post by: RED-DOG on September 17, 2013, 08:21:57 PM Joe is the man!

Title: Re: Joe's new guitar Post by: AdamM on January 29, 2014, 01:59:22 PM Just a quick bump on this.
I've had a crazy six months with changes of role at work, selling the house and a painful exchange/move that had us living with most of our stuff packed for the last few months. Settled in the new house and sort of unpacked, and the new house has a music room (shocking pink at the moment) so joe will be resuming his rock n roll journey soon. After a bit of a refresher on what he learned in the summer, we're going to crack into some Bowling For Soup next . At least 1 video by his birthday/anniversary of starting. Title: Re: Joe's new guitar Post by: AdamM on January 29, 2014, 02:32:22 PM I feel like I've neglected him, not teaching him anything for 6 months, but on the other hand, he's only 8. It's not like time is against us.
He's listening to a lot of music, so he's sort of doing his homework. |
