Wow, 8 years already.

google purchased YouTube for $1.6 billion barely a year after launch, but then spent 4 or 5 years wondering how to monetize it. Quite a lump of money if you have no idea how to turn it into a useful investment, but jeez they spotted it's potential early.

The most viewed video on YouTube is the music video of the song Gangnam Style by PSY. It was added to the site on July 15, 2012, and became the first YouTube video to receive over 1 billion views on December 21, 2012



All in all, quite a comment on human nature.

I visit it most nights for half an hour or so, just to view & listen to a few music tracks. I'd never pay to use it though.

Think there are probably several hundred interviews or clips by or about me on the Site, all of which have mercifully sunk without trace to the very bottom of oblivion & beyond.  

Started because someone was looking for Janet Jackson's 'wardrobe malfunction' and couldn't find it. Seem to recall hearing that on Only Connect anyway. Happy to be told that was something else!

I've never got it, thankfully.

I don't get it either but almost everywhere I have travelled in the world outside of the UK they mention it to me and ask if I have seen and then insist on playing it and repeating it over and over again to much hilarity.  I always assumed it was something to do with his accent along with the mildly amusing scenario......

I think it's a female thing. Several women have told me how amazing it is or sent the clip but I've never heard any men mention it, other than to say that they don't see what the fuss is about.
