Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: tikay on April 27, 2013, 10:20:29 AM Easy. 1) They have a quite splendid Zoo. 2) Edinburgh Waverley station (the UK's 2nd largest by area ocupied) is open all night, & there are few UK Railway Stations with more atmosphere. You can spend an entire night there & not get bored. 3) There are some really nice Tea Rooms on the Royal Mile. 4) You are only a short taxi-ride from Queensferry, on the banks of the Forth of Firth, & you can sit on the bank of the Forth, right between two of the world's finest & best looking bridges, & you can even see the chaps painting them, as I don't think they have finished yet. Let me know if I can assist further. "Wow, fantastic" Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: Dubai on April 27, 2013, 10:46:21 AM Assuming u thought they would all be 1,000-1, the tea rooms are probably less than 4/1 to get visited
Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: OverTheBorder on April 27, 2013, 11:13:39 AM Actually touristy, or dancing ladies/public houses?
Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: Dubai on April 27, 2013, 11:16:21 AM Interesting dayime stuff, maybe a combination of touristy ie food and wine tasting, and then activity for later in day Highland games etc
Then any nightime advice obviously welcome Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: OverTheBorder on April 27, 2013, 11:22:25 AM Interesting dayime stuff, maybe a combination of touristy ie food and wine tasting, and then activity for later in day Highland games etc Then any nightime advice obviously welcome I live in Edinburgh, on my phone just now, shall send you multiple links when at my laptop! I live accross the road from the dancing ladies, so may see you ha ha There is a whiskey museum on the royal mile, always a good start, the underground vaults/ghost tours are quite comedy pissed too! Tuk tuk is a really good Indian tapas place, ideal for stag, great food but not too formal, will have a good think Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: Dubai on April 27, 2013, 11:25:35 AM Ah quality, appreciate it thanks. Its a small and refined group for a stag so wont need to get 20 drunk animals in etc. Just 6 drunk animals :)
Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: Woodsey on April 27, 2013, 11:34:58 AM Been to Edinburgh loads of times for piss up weekends. It's actually a pretty good place to just wing it for a night out without worrying about too much of a plan.

Was about a bit outside the city though.
Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: celtic on April 27, 2013, 01:18:52 PM Once you arrive in Edinburgh, go to Waverley station, and get a train to Glasgow.
Enjoy. Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: Boba Fett on April 27, 2013, 01:22:59 PM Strip clubs close at 1am FYI
Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: tikay on April 27, 2013, 01:25:54 PM Once you arrive in Edinburgh, go to Waverley station, and get a train to Glasgow. Enjoy. He could actually catch a Glasgow-bound train from Edinburgh Haymarket Station, too. Is the Tram running yet? Should be soon, construction srtarted as recently as 1977, & it is only 17 zillion over budget. Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: outragous76 on April 27, 2013, 02:28:34 PM There is a decent wine bar in a vaulted basement, I'll find out name if no one beats me to it
I anticipate they would do tasting ( if serious) Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: david3103 on April 27, 2013, 03:13:05 PM Have at least one drink in Deacon Brodie's near the top of the Royal Mile and also try The Ensign Ewart.
Both 'proper' pubs. Back in the day it was fun to try and drink your way down Rose Street, but these days it's all poncy wine bars. The Stand Comedy Club has the inestimable Paul Sinha on tonight - he's very funny and was one of the Quizzers on The Chase. http://www.thestand.co.uk/performance/27-04-2013/Edinburgh/The-Saturday-Show/10354 Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: GreekStein on April 27, 2013, 04:40:09 PM Strip clubs close at 1am FYI I bet they dont when dubai is there Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: mulhuzz on April 27, 2013, 04:46:01 PM they have a really weird thing with taxis in edinburgh but I don't remember what it is.
Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: Marky147 on April 28, 2013, 03:52:13 PM Mate said Grassmarket/Pubic Square is a good for the night out, plenty of bars and the strip clubs are all next to each other. If you want upmarket bars/clubs he said you'll want George Street.
He is more Pubic Square orientated, so wasn't much help with winetasting unfortunately :D Haymarket has some good curry houses that have won awards, he said that Indian Cavalry Club is a good one, but I'm sure you're probably able to sniff out some fine dining if you want some. Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: Somerled on April 28, 2013, 05:07:32 PM If you want good beer the Bow Bar (near Grassmarket) will serve a better pint than most (may even get a Loch Ness beer there if you're very lucky ;-) ) - great traditional pub but not the liveliest for a stag affair. Blue Blazer also serves a great pint and is just around the corner from some of the more alternative entertainment venues.
Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: Dubai on May 09, 2013, 02:52:12 PM On way now- what's best club for Thursday night not worried about costs, as long as classy etc
Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: Geo the Sarge on May 09, 2013, 03:45:32 PM Hi Dave,
Edinburgh isn't actually blessed with good nightclubs tbh. Best bars are generally found on George Street The following are all up market bars/gastro pub types and usually a good night can be had http://www.lemondehotel.co.uk/ http://www.luluedinburgh.co.uk/ has Tiger lily below which is decent http://www.candybaredinburgh.co.uk/ All within 200 metres of each other Where are you staying? Geo Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: Kev B on May 09, 2013, 04:11:50 PM they have a really weird thing with taxis in edinburgh but I don't remember what it is. They are extremely expensive and don't expect to be tipped. I like Edinburgh and it's people but my choice would be, go to Dublin. Title: Re: Stag do in Edinburgh Post by: Boba Fett on May 09, 2013, 06:10:56 PM Tigerlilly Im told
