Title: rule check
Post by: jgcblack on May 03, 2013, 05:43:13 PM
In a no limit Texas holdem game there are four players to the flop..

Checked to button, who announces 'pot' (pot is around £35)

What is the bet please, and why?

There is no bet, dealer cant count the pot so it isnt a legal betting amount.  Action still on the potter.

The guy can say bananas, apples and pot...all mean nothing in NLHE. All options.

Pretty sure if you say bananas you have to bet 3/14th's of the pot

Pretty sure if you say bananas on the flop, you have to peel the turn.

Sigh.

That's got to be the funniest thing you've ever said....

.....apart from 'dinner is on me'

Tbh I didnt have Vinny down as a comedian...

:)

I ask the question above because my understanding is that the speech "pot" cannot be taken as a legal bet in a no-limit game and I thought it then had to go as a min bet as I've seen or heard somewhere in the past..

??

For example, what happens in these situations:
If the player says "I set you all in..."
Player A sets player B all in by saying "I put you all in" for a small amount, without seeing player C which covers B's large stack?
Player X says "I bet x of the pot"
Player X says "Raise pot"

and so on, and so on....

I guess if you say "raise pot", then you'd have to put in a raise of some size, as you've said "raise" - not sure if it would be the minimum or if you have the option of how much (I'd assume the latter).

Also :D @ Vinny.  Only taken you seven and a half years.

Must be a reference to what I think it is. Wp.

I mean I guess with the bet pot thing he probably should be held to a bet. I'm sure I've seen full option be given before though

If they said "I'll bet the pot", then they are bound to a min bet. Same with raise. Stops angling this way. Coul be different in other cardrooms, like amount is players choice.

If they said just "pot", as bully said its as relevant as saying sliced bread and binds them to nothing (no limit game, there is no such thing as pot).

Funniest one ever was Rich (dik9) dealing at river lights. Guy announces pot. Rich nonchalantly replies "sliced bread". Guy asks what that's got to do with anything, to which he replies "about the same as asking for the pot in a no limit game". Fun times.

Sorry if I rambled, been up 18+ hours lol

Think Genting wanted to allow players to ask for pot at one point. Pretty sure dik9
advised them that this was a really poor idea.
